Welcome to Chicago, where only the cops and criminals have guns, but I repeat myself.

This really speaks to the political structure in the city. If you are part of The Machine (and the cops are most certainly a part), you are protected from real consequences.

this is why we have civil suits - she has an alternate route for some justice

many of you dislike tort suits, but she can file one, win & take his house

.. or his trailer

That suit would still have to go through the same court system. All the cop has to do is ask for the suit to be dismissed, and it will be.

Absolutely outrageous, if he got probation does that mean he is still on the force?

Honestly, I wish they'd have pulled out a gun and shot the guy. And, I'm pretty sure, that would have been justified.

At this point, someone needs to beat the guy so he's in the hospital for a month or two. No permanent (physical) damage, but he needs a serious beat down.

Another Chicago cop for you snipe...

All charges dropped against cop in fatal crash - Chicago Breaking News

Quote:
With a judge's earlier ruling that Chicago Police Officer John Ardelean had been arrested and detained without probable cause, Cook County prosecutors today dropped all charges against him in a crash that killed two people.

Yet his vehicle struck and killed to people.....

John Ardelean DUI Case: Officer Charged In Fatal Crash Released - chicagotribune.com

Quote:
A Chicago Police Officer involved in a fatal car crash that killed two people will not face any charges, according to the Cook County prosecutors office.

36-year-old John Ardelean was off-duty Thanksgiving Day 2007, when video cameras captured him drinking three beers and at least four shots at a River North bar.

A short time later, his SUV broadsided a car at Damen and Oakdale Avenue and killed 21-year-old Erick Lagunas, and 22-year-old Miguel Flores.
Not the first time the judge made a fishy call...

Quote:
Judge Thomas Gainer Jr., who ruled that Ardelean had been arrested and detained without probable cause, disputed claims that there was a possibility of conspiracy among police officers to protect one of their own.

- the standard she has to meet is a lot lower & a different Judge may/should be involved

She, not the state, would get to decide on an appeal to the Ill. Appeals Ct. if she lost

I do understand your points re corruption in Chicago tho. I grew up in Louisiana and we were always fascinated by Chicago's corruption. Not that it was so bad, but that that what was such a low level of corruption, to us, was something the newspapers would bother about.

BY FRAN SPIELMAN AND FRANK MAIN Staff Reporters

The Chicago Police Department is seriously considering scrapping the police entrance exam to bolster minority hiring, save millions on test preparation and avert costly legal battles that have dogged the exam process for decades, City Hall sources said Tuesday.

Just one of the many examples of the systemic failure being experienced in our society.

This is truly disgusting considering that if anyone of us did this to a cop we would do jail time after a nickel ride on the way to the station and falling down some stairs. Not to mention being dragged through the mud on the news.

This guy should be fired....Period.
