I got my start in the domestic produce department. I mostly oversaw potato pricing in Oregon, Idaho, and Maine up into the late '70s. At that point there was a downsizing in my office and I had to take over the pretzel desk too. An odd combination, but I made the best of it for a few years. IIRC, it was in the mid '80s when the orange guy retired and I had to assume his responsibilities as well. Once again, I excelled with the new duties and with my proximity to New Jersey I was given the task of the tomato market in quarter one of last year. That my friends, is how I became the seat warmer at the PPOT desk.

So when is the U.S. going to convert to the metric system?

MRM 06-08-2010 01:24 PM

When Mother says so. And not until she's darn good and ready.

Uconn, you're a bit older than me. Are you the guy who they used to base the Orange Juice trader character in the old Eddie Murphy movie Trading Places? If you recall, the climax of the movie revolved around Eddie Murphy and Dan Akroyd getting government weather data early and cornering the orange juice futures market, crushing the trading firm that used to employ Akroyd and Murphy's characters. Back in my training class they claimed that the character of the OJ trader was based on the real life guy who ran the citrus desk when the movie was made. Something about an Skull & Bones buddy having a joke on a friend. Just wondering if that was you or if you knew which guy it was.

I knew the guy, but not in a sniper spotter kind of way. ;)

Actually, you left out a word. The correct answer is
"You bet your sweet as..." since it is assumed that all Turtles own a jack-ass.

Mother always did like U better...I suspect that is because you bring her, her Gin & Tonics.. She is always saying, "That Nostatus is a nice boy, so polite and thoughtful , and TABS why can you be just like him." To which I usually reply, "Because I don't want to have to get you drunk to like me."

When I was growing up I always thought we were Episcopalians because Mother was always drinking Gin & Tonics...and that was the sacrament...

Okay, I owe Joe and flatbutt at least one beer each. I still remember the four questions.

on2wheels52 06-09-2010 03:42 PM

I know ALL the questions. I think there's closer to 400 than four. The turtle reference escapes me though.
