2003 Ford Escape Alternator
Anyone replace one before? I read online that you have to remove the wheel and exhaust. Is this true? The Ford stealership is quoting $800 for the job. I am callng BS.

Didn't someone here just replace one? Or was that the starter?

This is a seriously ugly job. I had to approve a similar repair for one of our company cars. Wheel off, splash shield out, axle shaft out but some people leave the axle shaft in take the intake manifold off and wiggle it out that way. Method #2 is especially helpful if it's time to change spark plugs anyway. If it's that time, do it now...
Seriously ridiculously stupid design for a part known to fail and normally serviced by an average mechanic or DIYer. Steriously stupid - someone should be kicked in the balls for that design. angela

There was a new-er Cadillac engine where the alternator was safely enfolded within the warm confines of the intake manifold over the engine.
Much like the Honda oil-filter locations, that one belongs in the round file. |
