How much money is too much money?

I live in a small town......make that a tiny town.
I know most everyone here including the Selectmen (4) town clerk, road forman etc...don't always make it to town meeting, but always read the town report.
I ran across this article today and and it makes me wonder how in the he!! did these towns, citys etc.. let this happen?

You know, I think folks that vandalism is a pretty bad thing. Stuff like keying a car or slashing tires, should be seriously dealt with.

BUT, many/some of the folks in the above article need to have their cars keyed every time they leave the house.

This is a good example, MORE than his full salary for a pension for life?

Quote:
Volpe’s salary in 2008 was $164,000, but the commission added $270,000 in bonuses. That raise was nice, but even nicer was the step up in his pension, which is based on an his last-year salary. The bonuses helped bump Volpe’s pension up by more than $50,000 per year. The $166,000 he’ll make annually now that he’s retired exceeds his top base salary for the job. Residents forced three parks commissioners to resign after the deal was exposed by the Chicago Tribune, but they still have to pay Volpe for life.
Yeah, his car should get keyed any time he leaves the house.

Public wages need to be set to the mean wages of the citizens that they're governing.

If the mean wage is $60k and it dips x percent over the year, same with the public workers. If mean wage goes up so be it for the public "SERVANT"

This needs to change NOW!

Next thing that we need is a that just like jurors, we need to have citizens that get drafted ( AND PAID a reasonable sum for their time) that sit in on all budget meetings and they're allowed to vote/veto spending.

Government entities have a monopoly on government services. As such, if the cost of providing the service goes up (for whatever reason), they just raise the price (taxes), as they have no competition.

Many are attracted to the public sector because of high-pay, little work, generous benefits, and little chance of ever getting fired. They come in with a mentality of extracting as much as possible from the system--which they learned from the labor unions that represent them. Taking a few hundred extra dollars at taxpayer expense has quickly grown to taking a few hundred-thousand extra dollars at taxpayer expense.

I do notice that no one from Chicago proper is on that list. Of course, those guys have figured out how to spend public accounts on themselves, collect paychecks for ghost employees, and get appointed to jobs they never do. The bureaucrats in Chicago know how to stay below the radar while extracting huge sums of money from "the system" (i.e. other citizens pockets).

Most people feel its "too much money" when its more than they make. I once heard a wise man say that your definition basic necessity is based on where you are at. Think about it, a family making $15k per year is considered to be below the poverty line. They have a roof over their head, clean water, safe food... yet, to 80% of the world they are living like millionaires.

John D. Rockefeller was once asked how much money would it take for him to be satisfied. His answer was "just a little bit more".
