Recoil Pads
So I need help selecting a recoil pad. I picked up a Remington 600 Mohawk in 308 and I want to find a recoil pad for it. With the rifle being about 40 years old I can't just select a prefit recoil pad from Pachmyer or similar so I am thinking about getting a "grind to fit recoil pad." I want to lessen the recoil and also lengthen the stock 1-2 inches to fit me better. Anyone have any experience with grind to fit recoil pads, and if you do can you recommend a brand/model? I do not want to get the kind of pad that slips over the stock because I do not care for how they look.
Thanks, Shawn |
I had a similar problem with my wife's Remington (Baikal) Spartan 453. I just bought a limbsaver that was the closet fit and modified it with a dremel. Cabela's or a similar big box usually has a whole aisle of recoil pads. I just brought in the stock one and found the best match.

I do grind and fits all he time. adding that much to LOP with a pad will be difficult, but I know of a place that makes a nice vintage repro pad that is an 1 and a half. The process is too long to type here but if you PM me I will give you my phone number and tell you how to do it while you take notes. Go here...http://www.csmcspecials.com/SearchResults.asp?Cat=18 for some nice grindable pads the long one is about half way down.
