In search of Inventory Management Software

I have about 100 items in inventory that I would like to track. I don't want to spend thousands of dollars on software right now. Any one have any suggestions on a moderately priced or free program?

I would suggest Access? It shouldnt be too bad. I manage a procurement system for a large grocery chain

My only experience is with QuickBooks and Quicken Home Small Business. I have access to Excel but no experience with it.

I don't know what version of QuickBooks you have, but the version we have is Accountant Edition, 9.0. It has an inventory function that needs to be turned on. Click on help, search on "Inventory", and if your version has it, it will tell you how to launch it, and how to work with it, if your version has the capability.

I think you can set up Quickbooks Pro to do that. You can even do it with a bar code reader.

For 100 items, you can do it with a pencil and a columar pad. FWIW, Excel is a columar pad.

List the stuff down one side and other relevant info in the columns.

If you have the time, open Microsoft Works and "data base." Blank data base lets you build a simple sheet that can be queried. Access is good, but I think Works might be simpler. You just need to study a bit on queries so you can "manage" your inventory.

A friend of mine is devolping just just a system, I will be using it to keep track of all my Porsche & BMX stuff. Contact David Zang" <DavidZang@projmstrs.com>; for info.

Quickbooks inventory feature works fine as long as average cost method of inventory valuation works for you. Good explanation below. When you say 100 items do you mean 100 physical items total?
