10 000 posts and a dangerous accident! Coincidence??

Well, my friends, this durn forīner has finally reached 10 000 posts.

Its been a pleasure. A wealth of knowledge and good American will.

A few other Pelicans have made a point of acknowledging the 10k milestone in one way or the other. As if that number had a special meaning or influence.

They were right. Its a bloody number. A bad luck number. Make sure you stop posting before you reach it. Something bad will happen.

I left for work this morning, leaving my 15 year old daughter at home with a slight cold. Work all day and just before leaving for home I get a phone call from my brother who lives next door. -"Markus, I think your house is on fire! Lots of smoke coming out of a window on the ground floor. I am on my way over there - wait I see your daughter running toward me now! Get home now!"

I rush home and by the time I get there, my brother and a friend have put out the fire. So how did it start, you ask. Well, and here is a lesson about youngsters in general and teenagers in particular, my daughter decided to treat herself to a nice dinner. Why not pommes frites! Lets see, in the local burger joint they fry it in oil. Lets take a large pan, fill it up with oil, put it on the heater and go watch some TV while it heats up. Said and done. Why does it smell like smoke in here? Better go in the kitchen and check how my frites are coming. Not good. The oil is burning three feet high, licking the cabinetts and the smoke is quickly getting thick in the kitchen. Out the door like a lightning, running for my brothers.

I am just so relieved she is physically okey. Chocked but not burned. Perhaps this 10k posts day was a lucky day after all. I keep thinking, what if she had reacted instinctively and thrown a bucket of water on the oil..

We are alright now and thanks to my brother there were relatively little damage done. No big deal in the big picture. Thanks for listening.

Wow, glad for the happy ending.

Good that your daughter is ok and had the sense to run for help and not toss water on it which would have made it worse.

Think she learned a valuable lesson today.

Wow, Marcus! I'm so glad your daughter wasn't injured by the fire/smoke.

Start deleting your posts and it will have the effect of reversing time. It won't take many to get your house back to original condition. ;)

I'll still say congrats on the milestone. Nothing happened on my 10,000 day of 5/5/2006 at 1:58 am that I know of. I shouldn't have even been awake!

Glad the daughter is OK.

GH85Carrera 06-17-2010 12:44 PM

Wow. In the long run the burned stuff is just stuff and can be replaced. It is great she did not throw water on it.

Geronimo '74 06-17-2010 12:45 PM

Glad to see nothing permanent was damaged.

This is not what I meant with expecting something special.....
I was thinking more in the likes of a silly pic or a you tube performance....

Wow, thank goodness for the happy ending. Very thankful that she's not in a burn unit now. Like you said, super lucky that she didn't through water on it.

Yeah, kids, especially teens, are great aren't they. If that's the worst thing that you have to live through, you'll be doing well.

Your 10,000th post brought you good luck, not bad luck. Time for a big hug of your daughter, then cook her a burger to show her how its done.

Oh Haha 06-17-2010 01:47 PM

Glad your daughter is ok, Markus. Give her a big hug. It could have been much worse, obviously.

Probably should buy your bro a beer or 2, as well.;)

Damn Freedom Fries.

bivenator 06-17-2010 01:53 PM

Man, when you said fire my heart was in my throat. Glad everything is gonna be fine.

Hugh R 06-17-2010 03:27 PM

Glad everyone is OK, also glad she didn't try and throw water on it!

crustychief 06-17-2010 04:31 PM

I am glad nobody got hurt.

A930Rocket 06-17-2010 05:12 PM

WOW! Scary story, but I'm glad it turned out well.

My brother had a 16-17 YO friend who started cooking a steak on the stove when he got home. Fell asleep and was killed when the house burned down.

syncroid 06-17-2010 06:56 PM

Happy 10,000 Markus! Glad your family is okay.

Thanks you all for your kind words. We are fine, but none of us could go to sleep last night so we stayed up and played cards until three in the morning. A couple of hours sleep and I am back at work now. Dreary eyes but happy.

Have a great weekend everyone! Tomorrow our Swedish princess Viktoria is marrying a geek and the Royal family will never be the same again.

I am a proud Royalist. I think its both an historically cool thing and I love how it pisses off lefties that there are a few people with money and status as a birthright. :D

pwd72s 06-17-2010 10:38 PM

Considering how it turned out, it was a lucky day. Go buy a lotto ticket...

livi 06-17-2010 11:15 PM

I agree. I will. Thanks, Paul.
