Manute Bol died

Manute Bol died, wonder what it was, no details in report I read. Maybe some kidney thing, only 47. I always liked him, crazy tall, gave most of the money he made away. Here he is with Spud Webb(24" height differential)

Sounds like an especially unpleasant way to go.

RIP.

Wonder what precipitated the S-J syndrome. Yeah, that would be a bad way to go, and the situation that comes to mind where I would consent to dialysis

I did not know much about him, but sounded like a great human being from the articles I have read in the last few days. Gave away most of his money throughout his life to help his fellow man and died poor. I am sure there is a special place in heaven for him. God bless his soul and may he rest in peace. He certainly had some qualities that we could all emulate.

I should hope one day Chuck writes a short epitaph for me similar to the words he so eloquently gives the memory of Mr. Bol.

He gave away a lot of money, but also pissed a lot of it away gambling.
He had a serious gambling problem.

Everyone who knew his said the same thing, he had a great big heart.
I imagine a kind, caring country boy who didn't have anything growing up and when he got it he didn't know what to do with it.
After he "retired" from the NBA I remember him getting asked what he was going to do now. he said he was going to buy a cow.

I was in a bar one night in Newport RI when he was there. I really thought it was some dude standing on a chair. It was amazing just how tall he was. I watched him play a few times in the NBA - if he could have put on another 100lbs of muscle he would have been a force.

He sure did seem like a good guy. RIP

I know nothing about the man.

But is there another competitive sport where a person can succeed solely by virtue of a random physical attribute such as height?

Seems bizarre to me.

He was a good fellow. He did a promotional stint for a minor league hockey team after his basketball days were done. Can you imagine how big he looked with skates on.
