crap..my brother texted me a photo of my dad's headstone..now i'm bummed.
just dawned on me that my dad had been gone for 30 years. he died on father's day (to add an additional bit of joy forever on dad's day). i sometimes feel guilty, "forgetting" everything. his voice, how he looked....damn, i was just a dorky kid back then.
sorry to be such a downer..wife is out ordering window treatment..here watching a turkey breast roast. house smells good, tho. happy father's day..dont be a jackass to Dad..

Sorry vash, my dad's been gone seven years. Should he be looking down I would think he's pleased with his kids & grandkids (no gg kids yet, but one's in the oven).

Yup.
It's my first Father's Day without the old boy around, and I miss him terribly. Enjoy the oldies while you have have them.

Mine passed away thirteen years ago on my Sister's Bday and I still get misty when I think of it.

Think of something nice that you remember about your Dad. You can set the tone in your head, and he would want you to be happy.

Feel lucky, and feel good that you had a decent person as your Dad. My Dad, well I was pleased to see the last of him when I was about 8 or 9.

Mine died about 25 y/o. I miss him, my MIL lives with us and would be about the same age now. 81. He was the smartest man I ever knew, full tenured professor of Nuclear Engineering at 30. Wrote the definitive book "Plasma and Controlled Fusion" I think you can still find it on line. But he was a terrible father in my childhood years. Grew into an OK guy when I threatened to kill him with a 2x4 to the back of the head if he beat my younger brother and me again. I think that got him to thinking, I was 12.
My kids think I'm the greatest Dad in the world, and I should be.

U don't need a Dad when U have a Mother like mine...
My fondest remembraces as a child were of walking through a Department Store with Dad when he would let out the most horrendous farts...I would pretend like I don't even know him....and his comment was, "What do you want me to get sick or something?"

Mine left almost 40 years ago when I was 16. He is still living. I've seen him twice since then. He used to beat the living daylights out of me. He was a very angry man.
If your dad is still around and you have a good relationship you should thank him. I know I could have used a dad when I was younger.

____________ Not to hijack but ... My mother raised my sister and me, alone, after a divorce. Near her end (in 2002) we cared for her at my home as she battled cancer. When we were sorting her clothes to go to Goodwill, I found a favorite sweater she wore and I put it to my nose. The 'essence' of her body and her favorite perfume was present. I put that sweater in a plastic bag and occasionally, I take it out, inhale ...and remember. Happy Fathers Day gentlemen.

I was lucky to have a dad(and mom) that supported us kids in every way, even when we were setting ourselves up for failure.
When my older brother was killed in a car wreck at 17, my dad took it pretty hard and hit the bottle to excess during the work week. I can't imagine what he was feeling. Obviously, I see things differently now but, as a kid, it was kind of embarrassing. ![]() I became closer with my dad as I got older and I'm glad he was there for me through my divorce and that he was around to see me get a promotion at work as well as meet my wife and start a family. My son was only 3 months when he passed but I still remember him hugging me after holding him for the first time. (That pic is hanging in my son's bedroom.)
