Meyrick's Antient Armour
I stumbled on a 1830 printing of the two volume set by this name, illustrated by Joseph Skelton. It's missing 4 plates, but all of the descriptions are there. Anyone have any insight on the books in general or a good venue through which to sell the books?

Seriously, not a single arms and armour enthusiast here?

Sure, I suspect there are a few. I bet you'd have better luck appealing to the old book folks than the arms and armour folks.

Please send close up photos showing any damage (internal and external), also a few pics showing the entire spine and front cover. I might be interested and if I am not, I will direct you to dealers who might be.
Thanks

It might be worth a few hundred if in good to excellent condition - less if not.
There is a vibrant market for old and rare books.

Those are different volumes, innaccurately described.

That's pretty cool, is it authentic, or a display reproduction? (don't know much about knights and such, why is is 7 feet tall?)

Is Ancient actually spelled 'Antient' on the book? (in your title) Interesting...

It's a fully wearable replica of Italian Gothic style (aka Maximillian armour)....it fits me. It has a wooden base, and when displayed, reaches 7 feet tall. Common design characteristics of this style were long, pointed feet, and the "strakes" on the shoulders
It's more of a conversation piece in the house....but it was fun wearing it for Halloween

Yes it is antient, remember this is an 1830 publication.
Embraer, that is seriously cool. Certainly a neat conversation piece. Rpkesq, this is certainly not a piece for a book collector, will send pics later. |

RPKESQ, pictures are sent.
All: The dig is this: The last copy, of an 1830 printing, sold with a public record of sale was in 1993. There is one other set of these volumes that I can find on the open market. They are in better condition, but they are also the 1854 printing. Asking price on those is $6k Funny note: Sean Rich of Pawn Stars fame (he's done a lot of other stuff too) couldn't appraise them because there are no comparables. |
