Exterior Side Mirror lost spring like action

Hi,
I have 1988 -911 coupe, I snapped the Right side exterior mirror and apparently the
spring like action was lost,.Is there a way to put a new spring back inside this mirror ?
A new elctric mirror is $700+.
Any suggestions to repair or restore this mirror back to
its original state ?
