Lost key finder
Any one have any experience with these. I have found a few on line but want to know if any one has have any quality problems with any of them. My mother in law keeps losing her house keys and believe me she has a lot of them. Four gate keys, one door key for back door garage, two keys to back door house, two keys front door house and on top of all that she turns off the power to the garage door opener when she isn't using it. The place is like a fortress. I say she keeps losing them but actually hides them then forgets where she hid them and thinks someone is sneaking in the house and stealing them. We have proved to her many times they have not been swiped but she still insists on hiding them. If I had one of those key finders I could just walk in a press the button and hear the beep reply and find them in a minuet instead of an hour. She also has an alarm system . I am considering buying one of those battery operated sawz alls so I can get into the house in an emergency.

I'd get all the locks keyed the same. If you lose one key or the set, no difference with someone breaking in.

Can't she hide it in the same place every time? Or does she forget where that is?

bought some cheap ones for my parents many years ago. they were great for mom but dad was a little hard of hearing. not sure what happened to the finders over the years, but at the time, they worked fine.

I don't lose things, but I leave them in restaurants etc. a lot. I wish there was a device that I could attach to my glasses, wallet, phone, etc that would beep to warn me if I get more than 10 feet away from them. Anyone ever heard of anything like that?

No need for GPS even- just need a phone with an RFID transceiver and RFID tags on your keys, wallet, etc. When they go out of range, the phone goes off.

OK, there ya go. I don't know much about electronics. How small can the RFID's be? Still, it would sell if it worked with a cell phone. Do cell phones have that capability as sold?

They don't have that tech built in the phones right now but it's not hard to build in.
RFID chips are tiny- they have implantable ones now.

I know. The Government put one in ma brain while I was sleeping.
My grandparents used to use a keychain that would beep loudly whenever they whistled. Of course, if your MIL can't whistle or find her dentures this type of device wouldn't solve the problem.

I ordered the key beeper but I'm afraid this is just a waste of time and money. I know she will remove the reciever from her key ring and not use it just as she did with the 2 camera set up I put in to detect intruders. The cameras were set up to cover all the entry points and worked quite well but the problem was she then could not say someone had stold her stuff because I had proof that did't happen. Her solution, take down the camera and I couldn't prove she was in error. I believe it is really a call for attention more than anything else. She tells people that some one is stealing her stuff and they then feel sorry for her.

Next time it happens, give her the number of a locksmith and have her call 'em and pay for her mistake.
And the time after that. And the time after that. And the time after that. And the time after that, etc., etc., etc. Get the picture? Make it her problem, not yours. Maybe she'll figure out a way to quit screwing it up if she gets tired of paying for the service calls. At some point, it's best to let "tough love" solve idiot problems like this. Quote:
