ebay motors Autocheck reports
Just a warning for anyone buying cars on ebay - the autocheck report data does NOT search Canadian databases. I've had a repo Caravan listed on there for sale, and just noticed that the autocheck report is completely clean. I know for a fact that this car had an accident insurance claim of just over $2500 back in Jan/04, because it shows up on the CarProof report (Canadian report system similar to Carfax, but FAR more reliable and in-depth, and puts Carfax to shame). Furthermore, it shows no loan/lien history on it - also not true.
It may work fine for US vehicle, I'm not sure, but just keep this in mind if you happen to be looking at a Canadian car.

well, you get what you pay for
![]() I don't put a whole lot of weight on those things like carfax, etc. A nice place to start but ultimately, any car you buy you should do your own DD. Thanks for the heads up...sadly, not surprising.

All the reports are only as good as the data they buy.

They are a lot better than nothing. They at least tell me where a car has been all its life, whether it was leased or a rental car, etc. Sometimes they reveal a diamond in the rough. An example would be a late-model car in the NY/NE area that really spent its life in the south where used cars are a LOT nicer. (Or vice-versa). People bid according to many factors but geographical location is a huge factor if the vehicle is more than a couple years old.
Agree with above comments but for free, I think they're great. |
