OVEN baked chicken without the oven. pics.

can you do this with your big green egg? i used a boxed chicken mix. "dixie fry". a stepped up version of "shake and bake". it's only flours and seasonings.
i cooked this in my WEBER kettle grill. stack 3/4 chimney full of briquettes on two sides. i pushed it up both sides of the grill. then cleaned the grill and oiled it with veggie oil. i let the dixie fry sit on my BRINED chicken thighs, until a good dryish crust formed..then i laid them in the middle of the grill..remember no briquettes under the chicken...let it go for 30 mins..and flipped. temp of grill is a mystery, so i probe the thighs and yanked them at 180 degrees. crispy, salty...served with ketchup and homemade PICO de Gallo. WOW! packed some up for lunch tomorrow.

OK. You had me at brining and grilling the bird.

But a box of "Dixie Fry"?

Shame on you!

Sometimes where we grow up makes us do funny things to food. I put salt on watermelon.

ketchup on just about anything fried..(or ketchup variation like cocktail sauce on fried seafood)
