Seadoo question
I have a 93 and 96 three seater with the 580 white motor. The 96 fired right up after winter storage. The 93 has no power to the starter. I'm guessing the kill switch or starter switch is bad.
I have a Fluke, the battery is charged, front storage is open and the box removed.......how do I trouble shoot the switches, or is there a "how to" schematic someplace. I twanged three discs in my back so bending over and getting in wierd positions isn't as easy ait used to be..... Thanks in advance..... |

I would first check all the connections for corrosion.

Hey Joe Bob,
I have a 2000 xl 1200 Yamaha. When mine wouldnt start I did the online search at Riva Motorsports. I looked of corrosion, I took apart the switch, but turns out that the starter relay went bad. $58.00 bucks at iboats.com fixed her right up. Riva and the dealer wanted 130.00 plus shipping for the relay. always us fuel stabilizer too Another time my charged battery wouldnt start her, turns out I had enough volts, but the load test showed, no amps..Had to buy a new battery... Kills my back to leaning over them too !!!!! I'll be riding in Laughlin this weekend, cant wait !!! Good luck !! Don |

Yesterday I also attempted to get my '96 Kaw ZXI 750 and my '97 SeaDoo running for the summer. The SeaDoo battery is toast (it was marginal last summer every time it sat for a week or so). The Kaw battery charged fine, but the main ignition switch must have corrosion on the contacts.... After a bit of wiggling on/off and if I hold it just out of the "on" detent position, the idiot lights come on and it starts.... let go of the switch and it dies. I simply need to tear the switch apart and clean the contacts and it will be good to go.
All of these things differ slightly depending on years/makes but all typically have tether cord switches that must be checked along with the main ignition. You just need to study the wires to figure out how your system works and then check switches for proper contact with an ohm meter.
