Plastic model kits...anyone with an interesting collection?
 

I am actually thinking of getting back into building plastic models since I don't have a car to build at the present time (not that I know how to build a car even if I had one to build). I did quite a few of them in high school, but haven't done one in a while. Just picked up a Tamiya 1/24 Porsche 911 GT1 and was wondering if anyone on here has an interesting collection.

Have a great collection of Porsche Hotwheels, Matchbox et al - prolly about 150+ from 356s to Caymens - a bunch of 928's and Porsche racecars.

I used to do some stuff with ships, almost IPMS but the Military kind of kept me from that. I did build my 10 month old daughter a B-25 and an F-84f that are hanging in her room amidst the barbie collection. I am looking for an SC coupe model, the closest I could find are turbos.

Most of my stuff is die cast; about 400-500 I guess. I've also got a few old unbuilt models. Here is a sample:

Although no actual SC kits made, you could use the Fujimi 1/24 scale Carrera. This is a Euro/Japan version, so will need to use the big rear rubber bumpers from the Monogram turbo, either coupe or cabriolet. If you have sugar scoop headlights, the old Monogram curbside 911 shown above has the correct pieces.
Most street and competition cars can be constructed with the parts currently available in plastic or aftermarket in resin.

That's one of the Fujimi kits that was noted for Crusty, above. Fujimi makes both a curbside version ( no engine detail and simplified chassis) as well as their Enthusiast Series version. The latter has a very detailed engine, great chassis components and the option to open the hood for a detailed trunk. Downside on the Carrera is that you will need to use the kit-supplied early turbo tail and a later version 930 tail to build an accurrate replica of your Carrera tail. Not that hard, but still need to hack some plastic. Again, use the very available Monogram turbo kit to access scale versions of your back bumper pads. If you get the coupe, rather than slant nose cabby kit, you'll have a good reference for locationg a sunroof as well. Monogram's turbo can supply you with the parts to help with your Carrera tail, and also some high-mounted rear stop light options. Personalized plate can be made with a photo reduction or find platemaker.com (?) on the 'net. One other note re the Fujimi kit is the lack of interior carpet texture. The Enthusiast kits all use the same chassis with "bare floor" ribbing, which is great for competition cars, but needs to be smoothed and flocked for a street car.

I have a bunch of Mustang stuff from years ago. Mostly 1/24 kits - let me know if you're interested - I don't want to go through the trouble of eBay'n it.

What is the difference between Fujimi and Tamiya? Are the Tamiyas more detailed?

I had a cool 911 RSR model kit back in the day (Mono or Revell - can't recall). I futzed with it for a while, and then gave it to a friend's kid. That was dumb.

Sweet! I will look into it. I built the turbo but it has turbo flares, I can bash but not that good.

I've been collecting Porsche models since I was a kid....that was a long time ago! Got about 1000 of them....all Porsches. Around 1/3rd of them are hand-built by me.
