Another Virus Thread :(

I cant belive Im going to have to deal with this again:(

I already went to two PC stores and according to them I have to bring my PC to them to be repaired but before I do that I'm checking with the PC gurus on the board, this is my case.

PC is running on Vista, I have two log in names one we will call A, and the other B.

Right now I'm operating from the A side Internet, and everything works just fine, when I switch to the B side all hell is breaking loose, I can't open explorer, or run Malware or open and restore to an earlier day, basically I can't do nothing from that side, no emails nothing.

Every time I try to open explore the virus window will come up that my PC is infected and that I have to purchase x program, I try to run a few Cd's that I have but that wont work either, I try to use my printing label machine same, everything is block.

Do I have any options??

Can you boot up in safe mode then run malaware?

juan ruiz 07-03-2010 06:15 PM

I haven't try that, I was looking at that option but I don't remember how to do it

i believe it's done on vista by tapping the f8 key as the computer is booting up, but i'm not a comp guru, just looked it up online.....

I recently had a malware/scareware infection that Malwarebytes did not remove and was totally taking over my machine. Doing some research on an uninfected machine, this is the only thing I could find that would kill the infection:

ComboFix | freeware | Download |Remove Malware, Spyware

Not quite as simple as just running Malwarebytes but it worked.
The instructions on how to use it are at the bottom of the screen at that URL...

Thank you guys, after I manage to run in safe node I was able to repair A side, 7 virus were found, the PC is running a little slow now but I will look into, I'd like to know what on line program I can purchase for additional protection, any suggestions?

Thanks again!

I've had good luck with avg (the free version)......
I also run spybot and maleware.....
My comp is nearly 10 years old and runs windows xp still, I can't wait to get something better, I know there's a bunch of crap in the system LOL

+1 on AVG - Download the free version from the internet and run it. It will clean both your A and B files. Regarding running slow, you might have too many programs in your "start-up". You can go to "control panel" and work on that.

Get ahold of "Red-Beard" here, he's very helpful and knowledgeable....

I'm guessing you had a fake Anti-Virus software virus. They typically give you a zillion pop-ups that tell you (in a sort of windows style error message) that you are infected with a virus and you need to buy their software. I have had the f'ing thing 3 times on different computers and my local computer store has added Sandboxie to my machines. Seems to be a pretty good solution for most viruses.

I think thats what I had, I downloaded the AVG and have the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware ( Free Version) anything else I should install??????

Sandboxie.

Juan,

Remember you can backdate the computer, restore it back to a time when you know it was fresh and clean. Course that will also delete any changes and mods that you have made since that time.

Setup AVG to download new virus info every night while you are sleeping (if you leave it turned on) and run a scan at the same time. Its well worth it.
