Battery Drain 100mA - kill a battery?
The new to me Sequoia came up dead today. I get about 100mA parasitic current which is at least twice as much as generally "recommended". It is full of aftermarket DVD and other crap by the PO that I will have to clean up eventually. That said, can .1A drain a healthy car battery over time? A car battery should have >40Ah, so it would take 200 hours to drain it half way.
The battery is 2.5 years old from Sears and it looks like the alternator had a "bad diode" according to the Sears records - there was another battery bought there 6 months prior to the one I haev now. PO stated he put new alternator but I have no record of it. I get 14V charging from the alternator, so I think that's okay. I am thinking the battery is just old and may have suffered from the larger than usual parasitic current and all I need is a new one - for now? Am I wrong? Is the Sears batter warranty transferable? ![]() What do you think? George |
