I'll bet she went off her meds Jan/Feb of this year. There is no reasoning with her - it just won't work. Buy her out, and make sure all of her stuff is out. Then change the locks. Don't nickel and dime this...get her out now whatever the cost.

And next time don't get someone who is unemployed as a roommate.

Send her to me.

Oh, wait...she's too old for me.

Sound advise

Jim Bremner: No, she is the antithesis of hot. I should have put this in GREEN

Don't know where you keep your financial statements etc... but if she's home alone with access to them I'd be calling my CC co and requesting all new cards and change as much account info on other stuff as you can.

On of my fathers ex wives became an ex because she went over the deep end bat **** crazy.

For "revenge" she wreaked havoc with his credit by taking out cards and loans in his name and went to town.

Get a lock put on your info so no new accounts can be set up without your knowledge.

I like this idea. If you try to deal with her in a safe manner, it's gonna turn out like that Michael Keaton flick . . . Pacific Heights?? She might be an uber genius acting whack in order to get the two of you to move out.

I don't know you but I'm not sure why you need advice with this. You must be very kind and careful...
I used to know a guy who rented some houses. He was actually a dick, besides the point, I picked his brain about bad renters... These were words of wisdom...he said if I have problems with a renter, I tell them," listen, this isn't working out, I'll give you 500 dollars and your rent back for the month to leave by this date( in your case I would say today) as long as you're out by this time and nothing's messed up." he said it always works. Always. Sounds crazy, but the cost to you and your property could be ten times worse. $500 is quite cheap. Not sure of the laws where you live, but if you can immediately evict someone who has no contract, get a witness- neighbor or uninvolved bystander to witness and evict her immediately. One day no more leeway time.
BTW, I have some relatives who are schizophrenic and stopped taking there medicine at one time. Sound very familiar. But unless you know her family your ability to help this person is zilch. She's growing weed in YOUR house? Serious?

Do the above and do it NOW. Longer you wait, the longer you are giving her to do things you do not want done behind your backs.

If you have to, call the police and evict her but do it NOW.

Porsche-O-Phile 07-11-2010 07:03 AM

Only unemployed hot chicks that are willing to "work off" their rent are acceptable. :D

Dottore 07-11-2010 07:18 AM

...crazy is as crazy does...

If you have to call the cops, you either need to say that you are in danger, or that you think she is endangering herself. And you need to make it convincing.

She is the real deal. Don't screw around. You start playing games, and you are going to lose.

Well some good news from the Mentally-Afflicted Front...

We mentioned the pro-rated early leaving option and she's for it. Now we just have to wait til the 15th when my friend and I get paid... Then it's Das Boot. After her latest outburst Saturday Morning she hasn't been seen nor heard from at the house. We're thinking she went over to the Motel 6 down the street. Better she hears the voices in her head there rather than here...

Thanks for the (constructive) input gents.

Joeaksa 07-12-2010 10:53 AM

Good to hear it.

Change the locks no matter what she says or does.

nostatic 07-12-2010 10:58 AM

If you're buying her out, you have to be clear about deadlines. Tell her that all of her stuff has to be out by X time on Y date. Put it in writing and have her sign it. If she doesn't comply, then at 1 minute after X time box her stuff and take it to storage. And change the locks as Joe and others suggested.

find a nice large kat(cat). preferably homeless variety. go to drug store. pick up a few cans of cat(kat) food, while strolling down aisle, pick up some ex-lax.

take kat(cat) home and feed all the cans of kat(cat) food. place EX-LAX in 1st can of cat(kat) food.

place kat(cat) in her room. close door.

get aluminum foil helmet, place in car(possible getaway). maybe make an aluminum foil helmet for cat(kat) that way no one thinks your an abusive kat(cat) owner.

have camera ready.....................wait.

she will be gone by 6am monyana. your excuse when she hits the roof............"kat(cat) must have gotten into the garbage."

hide ex-lax container well.

call cleaning company.............it will be worth every penny.

while waiting for the 15th - find out the local and Calif. law re her lease - an oral month to month may not mean anything if the law says otherwise

best wishes on a mutually agreeable resolution to this

Brando 07-14-2010 08:17 AM

Mid-week bump-bump-bump-it-up.

So, no sight nor sound of crazy roommate lady since Saturday AM. We were thinking, what if ironically, she were picked up off the street for going BERSERKER on someone. She was already wound up pretty tight.

Anyhow... I believe CA law is an eviction must be 30-day notice, unless a signed agreement says otherwise. I highly doubt we'll get a signed agreement. I'll print out a 30-day, date it Saturday and put on there the OPTION to pro-rate a refund if they decide to leave early, etc. Unfortunately... This does us no good if she doesn't come back.

If she's not back by the 9th of August we can pack her stuff, change the locks, clean & prep the room and get a new tenant. My friend's niece is moving out here from Minnesota. Mommy & Daddy are paying her way, so we'll see if that may be a better option.

WolfeMacleod 07-14-2010 08:52 AM

Sounds to me like schizophrenia.

And maybe a little bi-polar thrown in to boot.

Joeaksa 07-14-2010 09:14 AM

Wait a week or two, then put a notice in the newspaper that "so and so" has abandoned her property and its been taken to XYZ storage. Run this ad three days.

Pay the first months rent and walk away.

Once had a roomate(I was sleeping with) kill her kitten and boiled it's skull for keepsake. The other was pissed that she used the only good pan, and nailed that to the front door.
Fun times. I left.

Documentation will go a long way.

Why did you leave?

You could have been next? :(
