dog people..of all your dogs, (past/present) did you have a favorite?

i guess like children..we shouldnt really have a favorite. but one dog really impacted my life. we adopted a special needs mini schnauzer..she was already named "lady", or i would have changed it..she had pancreatitis..and other ills. the SFSPCA was so happy we adopted her, they did most of our vet bills at no cost. LADY still ate up about $7k+, because she couldnt ever have an episode on a weekday, during workhours. always weekends and holidays. that dog had heart. she was always in pain, but would climb the highest mountains, and run past obstacles just to be near my wife and i. when she passed, it was the hardest thing i ever had to do. she stayed with us for only about 3 years.
here are some pics

at the end right after our goodbyes:

We're kind of new to having dogs. We have a female mini schnauzer that we adopted a little over seven months ago. Great little dog.

Seems like my current dog(s) is always my favorite but with great memories of former pups.

I've always had male dogs until Ella, our female Great Dane--what a tremendously fantastic dog.

Our current dogs are fantastic. A pound pup who's super eager to please and loving and always happy and perky, and a really cool little mini-dachshund that's also super loving.

Sherlock

Angel

My previous dog though was super sweet and beautiful and taken before her time.

We just found out last week that she has epilepsy. She is adjusting well to her medications and we are hoping for the best.

Black GSD named Lucky. Found hit by car by the road as pup, dad took him home and nursed him back to health. Very loyal and let me climb and ride him when i was a kid.

Zeus, big dobie with a big heart. Terrible guard dog. Loved people but many were afraid of him.

Zoe our current, Golden Retriever. Everybody loves her and she loves everybody. Hardly barks but sheds tons. Happy just being whereever we are.

We have 3 of the best....ok we have THE 3 best doggies in the world. I should make that a wikipedia entry!

We have a Ginger our 12yo beagle. Ema our 9yo black lab, and Pepper, our rescue mutt. Our oldest, Bailey, died a year ago Tuesday. He was the king. Miss him so much.

I couldn't pick a favorite, but I will say Bailey changed our lives. We did many things in our life differently (for the better) because of that guy.

Big Henry and Little Buddy. Buddy left us yesterday, Big Henry has been gone almost two years. Both gentle giants.

It's hard for me to pick a "favorite", as all of our dogs have had such different personalities, from a dog that knew he was a dog and just wishing to go hunting to dogs that want nothing more than to be on your feet or on your lap.

Welll, when we lost Big Henry we did that and bought Jack....

Mj and I have talked about it, and we think we will just stay with one dog now. Two is twice the expense, and now that we are both retired and on fixed income that will give us a break. Buddy was sick for almost two years with his colitis and diabetes so the vet bills were killing us. We also want to travel some now and it's a LOT easier with just one dog. So I guess the simple answer is no.

I had dogs all my life and most were exceptional in my family.
I was 10 when we had Mickey, he would go trick or treating with me, stayed at the sidewalk while I went to the door.
When I married I had a bull mastiff, very smart dog. Would sneak in our bed, sleep on wife's pillow and push her into me and me against the wall....
I found Olivia (black lab, dobie mix) at the pound. She was the sweetest dog of all. She doted over every pet. Just lost her recently.
My neighbors niece rescued a border collie mix. I named him 'Rickybobby'. Smart and is my little buddy. Very jealous. Always happy to see me. Very easily trained.
They all had different traits but they loved me, I was their world. Never regretted having them in my life.

I too have had dogs all my life. Back in the 70s I had 3 Afghans. Great dogs but could be a little crazy at times.
Reka was a Norwegian Elkhound and GS mix that found me! She walked into my store, sat down at my desk and reached out her paw to shake hands. After everyone stopped working to play with her we noticed no collar. We put "found" signs all around the neighborhood, no response. So, she went home with me for the next 16 years. Great dog.
We rescued our current little Doxie, "Speedster" about 6 years ago. As soon as we got her home she got really sick. Started bleeding from everywhere, throwing up etc. After a bunch of tests we found out she had Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. Just about lost her but about 5 grand later she survived. Worth every penny! She recently got poisoned by the idiot HOA sprayed weed killer everywhere and she inhaled some of it. Her liver was near max toxicity and we almost had to put her down. She's better now but the idiots are still spraying!
Here's Reka

Here's Speedster

Good luck mate.

For the OP, do not consider a GSP (or Weimaraner/Vizsla) if you cannot take her out several times with intense activity. These are dogs who need to work, really.

This is Snap. Best dog I have ever had. She is 9 years old. We adopted her at 7 months from the humane society. The mail man is the only person she does not like.

Mazy, our English Mastiff. Hard to describe her personality but I can say that I've never had a dog as tuned in to humans as she is. Only about 6 mos old in this pic. 9 mos now...about 110 lbs so far with another 60 or so to go.

Of course, we dearly miss Abby, our 15.5 year old Golden (when she left us) who raised our three children with us. RIP sweet girl.

This is Olivia. Sweetest dog I ever had. I got her from the pound when she was 1 year old. She would get cold in the winter and I would heat her blanket in the dryer and put it on her.......she always gave me a kiss for it.
