Grand-Am in NJ this weekend

Fantastic day with my son. Took the ferry over to NJ and enjoyed a great day at the track. Next time we're going to get race scanners so we can keep up with what's going on.

Really are fortunate to have a big time track so close to us. Hoping to do Watkins Glen this fall.

Good gosh they were playing rough out there this weekend! Looked like it was a nice venue for seeing a race..

Did they have a PA working this year? Last year they did not....and it rained. So it was just cars going by in the rain. I went to VIR instead of the Hershey swap meet this year and took a scanner. Big difference. Had to skip NJMP since I was at the track myself...driving!

No PA where we were parked and a scanner didn't occur to me until I saw a guy near us wearing a headset and commenting on running order. Will absolutely have one next time along with a stopwatch. Haven't figured it all out yet but sounds like you can listen to the tv commentators via scanner as well as drivers. Would be the racing equivalent of the guys at the baseball game keeping score sheets.

It is def. a fun place to go. Not sure what access is like at other tracks but the last several pics are from the back of my truck where we had folding chairs and an umbrella (and cooler, etc). For $55 (including VIP parking) we got to park my truck right next to the track and watch some great racing on a good section of the track. A NASCRAP fan I work with is given tickets that cost several times that each year from a vendor and gets to sit high up in the bleachers passing binoculars back and forth.

Was HOT though! Just looking inside those cars on the pit lane walk nearly gave me heat stroke.

You can listen to the Teams or the commentators or the flaggers. Listening to the flaggers is really funny they get confused. Can't scan the teams when listening to the commentators...they never shut up.

I take my scanner to the NASCAR races as well and will scan 4-5 drivers at a time since you can see the whole race. They usually have MRN or PRN on the radio and I can hear that and the scanner at the same time. MRN showed up to VIR since the Talladega race was rained out that day.
