				Great Depression Piece

Here is a great WPA piece of art that I had hanging in my last house. I it is an early piecee by an artist by the name of John Opper and is dated 1934. Opper later gained fame as an abstract expressionist in the 1950's. I thought this piece was especially good....the WPA, Depression era art with its nitty gritty Ash CAn school sensibilities has been gaining popularity over the past decade or so.

I like that painting. I inherited some of my grandparents antiquities from that era and really enjoy them. Of course I am the guy who consistently watches movies from the thirties and fortys. Designers and artists really had style back then.

The photo may not be doing the painting justice. The content is interesting. I would definitely hang on to it.

I've got my late grandmothers nearly full set of pink depression glass...... It's worth quite a bit of money as it's only missing one or two pieces from the series when it was made...... I've been meaning to lay it all out for pics and documentaion for insurance porposes, I'll post some pics when I get to it.....not a lot of the pieces are around anymore as they are very fragile....

Ironically my Dad helped/worked for the inventor of Paint By Number. Daddy was there at the startup of the company in Detroit in the early 1950's .. Dad was the one who arranged for the paint to be mfg..
