Poor bastard
Got an 82 y.o. man in the Unit right now, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, pneumonia, MI, not doing well. Nice old Polish bloke.
Chatting to his wife, he was 13 when he went to the slave labour camp..... Can't help but think of my own 13y.o., & her orphaned and heading off to a slave labour camp. Focuses the mind, doesn't it? |
Old folk like him fascinate me......Think of the history that man has seen/ experienced. Surely puts my pathetic problems in perspective.
|
+1 on that. People like this bloke put the color in black on white writing of history. They make it alive and very real.

Not sure I'd call him a Poor Bastard.
Orphaned at 13 and survived one of the most horrific experiences of the last century. Came to America. Married a woman who is still with him. Made it to 82. Sounds like one tough old bugger who had a life worth talking about. I'll raise a toast to him tonight. |
Term of endearment down here, Stomachmonkey.
He just died. R.I.P. mate, you deserve to. |
Cindy's Uncle Roland now on his way out, Bone cancer, kidneys shot, and more. He was with the 1st Cav. pacific campaign...after the war became a successful biz guy, raised children...never really talked of the war.
We're losing the WWII generation... |

I was gonna post something about "those peace loving folks" in the middle-east said the holocost was fake and didn't happen, but now I don't think I will.

Have a 90 lb lady who is a Holocaust survivor. Very charming, interesting woman, tough as nails.
