12 Monkeys

...rocks. Madeline Stowe is totally hot as a blonde, Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt did what was perhaps their best acting ever.

I credit Terry Gilliam. :D

Oh, and it's real sci fi, for crying out loud! Awesome.

Schumi 07-19-2010 08:41 PM

Insane movie.

However, when it comes to Bruce Willis and Sci-Fi.... there is one movie that takes the cake:

The Fifth Element.

m21sniper 07-19-2010 09:45 PM

Multi-pass?

BlueSkyJaunte 07-19-2010 10:30 PM

Negative, I am a meat popsicle.

IMHO Fifth Element is 110% awesome but about as hard-core sci fi as, say, Star Wars. I.e., not at all. I'd call it more of a space opera.

12 Monkeys falls into the real sci fi category. What makes that even more unusual is that it WASN'T a failure at the box office.

12 Monkeys

5th Element

Both great flicks for different reasons.

Rusty Heap 07-20-2010 06:33 AM

Blade Runner.

I rest my case.

super green

My friends who play D&D and Warcraft think the 5th Element is the best movie ever. I find it campy and barely watchable.

12 Monkeys is one of the best Sci-Fi movies ever IMO.

Laneco 07-20-2010 10:33 AM

Fifth Element is absolutely atrocious. They should have just let the colorful flaming gay commentator and the hitler-like dude run with it and make it a full blown comedy. My husband watches this movie every couple of months. If it weren't for the laughter those two characters provide, I would definately be moved to pounding my head into the floor to drive the drivel from my skull.

12 Monkeys on the other hand is a very good movie.

yeah, they are great characters

Been so long since I saw the movie I can't remember...but Madeline Stowe...Oh my! She was always my "fine take the kids and the house, I'm moving in with my mistress Madeline" hottie!

tcar 07-20-2010 11:32 AM

Blade Runner... the best yet...

Turbo_pro 07-20-2010 01:25 PM

Mental divergence as defined in 12 monkeys explains many of those who post on PARF.

BlueSkyJaunte 07-20-2010 03:26 PM

Hey! No PARFerating my thread. :(

Blade Runner was a great film but no comparison to the book ([i]Do Android Dream of Electric Sheep?[i]). Besides, which version are you talking about? Theatrical? Director's Cut? Ultimate Director's Cut? WTF?

It was a full-blown comedy. You just didn't get much of it. ;) :D There are a LOT of references in the movie that are just lost if you don't have a good background in SF film. ;)

I realized I haven't seen 12 Monkeys and the Fifth element. I better be good as I just bought them together with Blade Runner, Stndby Me and Fandango.

just keepin it real. How often do you get to say "mentally divergent" about the people you love ?

I agree 100% with your assessment of the comedic environment and obscure references that exist in The Fifth Element.

m21sniper 07-21-2010 12:52 PM

I honestly don't even remember a single line from 12 monkeys. It had less than zero impact on me. Totally forgetful.

nostatic 07-21-2010 01:07 PM

obviously not enough rolls :D
