Conan painting sells for $1.5M
Used to love reading Robert E Howard as a youth. Had all the gore, women, magic, monsters and adventures in foreign lands that a kid needs.
Straightforward writing style, same as Pete Dexter and Mike Royko. It seems Frazetta Sr., the best cover artist of the series(yes better than Bell or Valeho), was suffering from dememtia in his later years, while his wife and son Frank Jr. were running his museum. There apparently was inheritance/planning issues between the children. Wife then dies, and the son tries to "retrieve" the paintings(with unknown motivation) worth tens of millions using a backhoe. Topless Robot - Frank Frazetta's Kid Tries to Steal Frank Frazetta Paintings Frazetta Sr. says this was without his knowledge, so cops arrest Jr. Frazetta Sr. passes, and the paintings are now being sold off. |

That's a little dated now.
Family resolved their internal dispute. Real shame Franks legacy ended this way. I grew up up Franks work. Still have every compilation book published. I was fortunate enough to get into a field that allowed me access to him and Boris as well. Called Frank one day a bunch of years back to talk about some work and spoke with Jr who told me about Franks recent bout of strokes and his general decline. Was crushed to say the least. Velo and Bell have a different style and while I prefer Franks work they are both stellar. Boris is about as humble as can be. Real great guy, very accessible. Answers his own phone and always has time to chat even if it's not about business. Have used Julies son David for a couple of projects when Boris was booked. Real talented kid.

Saw this on the news and posted quickly. Sad story on how miscommunication and stiff backs hurt all.
Obviously you are an inside on the situation, and it has been "resolved". Good to hear. (Spoke too soon. Velo and Bell are not bad, just not my style). |
