Flea problem - Anyone used this type of insect killer?

I have been noticing a lot of fleas outside my house in the last two weeks. They seem to be living mainly under the cedar trees lining my driveway, which just so happens to be my dog's favorite spot to sit and guard the house. Fortunately the house and dog are not yet infested.
I'm just curious if anyone here has successfully killed fleas outside the house, and what method you used. This is the stuff I'm thinking about:
Ortho Bug-B-Gon Lawn and Garden Insect Killer Ready-to-Spray - at The Home Depot

I don't know about that stuff, but I can tell you that this stuff kills anything and everything.

Demon WP Cyper WP Insecticide, Pesticide

You can also get it from Amazon.

You want to watch the toxicity of what you spread where tour dog hangs out.

Frontline for the dog then peppermint oil/soap for the infected areas.

I've had to deal with fleas one time. they're an absolute menis. I'll bet your dog is infected, you just don't realize it yet.
Good luck.

Bingo.

if you go beyond the above, then talk to your vet first

I used something similar to what the OP was talking about, as long as it is dry, should be dog friendly, if it is the same stuff. Did the job, but seriously attenuated my lady bug population too, hence only used it once.

Thanks for the tips. Using Dr. Bronners where the dog sits sounds like a good idea.

As for the rest of the yard... it's getting sterilized, along with as much of the neighbors yards as I can reach over the fence.

The dog must have a little Advantage left on him... he scratches a flea every once in a while, but I seriously think the fleas go after me more than him.

That's the beauty of the Peppermint soap. You can mix it with some water and put in a spray bottle and keep it handy.

If you have carpets in your house you can spray them down with it.

Getting rid of fleas inside can be a challenge. They'll drop off the dog onto carpets and lay eggs there. The gestation period can be 1-2 weeks so just when you think you've got them all a week later they start coming back.

Frontline will take care of that -- for faster relief, vacuum really well (or, better, have the carpets steam cleaned)

And here I thought I was the only one using Dr. Bronner's. One God! One Faith! I've been using the stuff for everything from mouthwash to shaving cream for over 20 years.

My wife is into "essential oils" for everything ... I was very skeptical at 1st. back muscle was hurting , she put magnesium oil on 10 min didn't hurt. She also has cure for mosquitoes-east texas cedar oil:)
