ship an engine..

Whats the cheapest way to ship an engine on a palette? I checked Forward Air and Fed Ex freight, and they both are @ $325.00 from ATL to SAT.

Trucking company maybe?

Did you check Greyhound?

Marc.
When we bought a used Audi 1.8 turbo long block for my son's A4 out of New York, it was shipped on a pallet via truck. Ran under $200 to Atlanta if I recall. I do not know the name of the freight line, but if you have time on your side I think the long haulers are your best bet. Where is SAT? Tell me your restoring an original 550 Spyder?

SAT = San Antonio. It's the airport code, so I'm assuming some kind of air freight shipping?

Try freight88.com

We use them on a regular basis for LTL shipping needs.

I got a pallet with 2 trannies on it on Yellow. It costs a lot more if you want door to door. But, if your local Yellow terminal is close enough, they'll fork it on your truck. You may wait awhile depending on what they are doing when you arrive.

Call the dispatcher ahead.

Yes, a local dispatcher is the best bet. It's usually pretty easy to find a trailer with room for an extra pallet, and the truckers are almost always happy to fill their trailer and make a bit more money.

I used ...

uShip - The Online Shipping Marketplace - Ship Freight, Furniture, Vehicles or Moves

to ship 2 Yamaha M/Cs 700 mi. from SF Bay Area to Portland, OR.
~375 lbs. ea. = $150 ea.
.
2 years later (different shipper) a 290 lb. Cagiva Mito M/C from Port. back down to Bay Area for $200.
.
Both carriers were insured (I checked), both episodes no problems.

Lots of estimates for 2 & 3 times these prices.

Yup. Shipped two engines fro MA to AZ for about 400 bucks. Had to drop them at the local terminal.
