Grew up in down there, never saw anything like that. Not even at Gator Jungle.

I remember canoeing down the Peace River with my father 20yrs ago and seeing gators this thick. They were scraping down the sides of the boat. Fairly intense moment even for a native Floridian.

Lake Alice used to look like that...

BTW Byron - if you come to a game in g'ville let me know - my mom's house is 10 blocks from the stadium, you can park there, do a little fishing pre/post game...

 Dude... how did your dad convince you that they wouldn't swamp you and eat you?

Anybody who tried to take me anywhere near an area that thick with gators would get the choice of being smacked in the haid with the paddle or turning back.

No problem in an outboard, but that is nuts in a canoe.

I've driven across Alligator Alley and seen about 50 in one spot. It really freaks out the out-of-state tourists.

RWebb 07-24-2010 07:01 PM

apparently, they are no longer endangered...

rnln 07-24-2010 10:51 PM

WTF. Never seen anything like this even in movies. How do you make sure you are safe? Do they ever accidently turn the boat over, break the boat, make the boat leak, or craw on your boat? What if you accidentally fall into the water?
What about those alligator hunters? Why don't they go there?

rnln 07-24-2010 10:52 PM

What is this guys? The alligator doesn't his meat?

I wonder if they would eat Asian Carp?

RWebb 07-26-2010 03:33 PM

they are using a gator somewhere (AZ?) to eat up a bunch of dead fish from draining a lake - think it is carp

generally, a gator will eat anything it can find...

I accidentally hit one with a paddle near Columbus, GA. When he started thrashing I began paddling fast enough to qualify for a third-world Olympic team. For miles. They were all over the place as I traveled closer to Eufala . . . but never like that. I might even consider bringing someone else along if I thought there were going to be that many dudes hanging out.

I wonder what those boys do for excitement........I'll just go ahead and turn-in my man card because I would have never gone through that canal with that many gators.
