How long do I have to wait until the used ones can be bought for $10k?

Hopefully it won't end up looking like a boxster with a body kit.

I've said this before, but I think the Volkswagen merger will turn out to be the best thing that ever happened to the Porsche brand.

On their own, Porsche had to make too many compromises in order to get sales volume.

Over at VW there can be a much sharper focus on the sporting origins of the brand.

I agree. Way too much emphasis was being put on porsche's "independence." Yes, it was nice for all the years that it worked.

But IMO they hurt the brand with the 6000 lb vehicles, that's just never been what Porsche was about, and if they had to compromise themselves to remain "independent" then they are just as good off, or better, being under VW.

Ferrari losing its independence and going under FIAT didn't hurt Ferrari, to the contrary, it allowed them to focus on what they do best - sports cars.

Considering Porsche built a chassis, that when loaded with standard equipment weighed over 100,000lb's, a 6,000lb vehicle is definitely a BIG compromise with far far too little mass.

I just don't LOVE the 918 like I LOVE the the carrera gt.

It will always be the ugly stepchild to me, regardless of performance figures.

Judging by that idea that the car loses half it's value every five years, and assuming the purchase price is $600,000-

Not adjusting for inflation, you would have to wait exactly 33 years, 1 month, 17 days, 7 hours, and 12 minutes for the car's value to reach exactly $10,000.

I challenged myself to how long it would take me to calculate that. 1 minute and 39 seconds.

Don't think a lot of people will be buying them, but the crash part is pretty much a given.

"The two-seat 918 Spyder is a successor to the Carrera GT. It pairs a 3.6-liter V8 that works with air-cooled lithium-ion batteries that power brushless electric motors. Total power is estimated to be about 680 hp."
