USPS tracking?

I sold some seat belts to Kroggers. He is overseas, but says I am to ship them to NJ. I charged him what I thought would be the price for a Priority Mail box. He wants a tracking number. USPS doesn't do that on PM, do they?

GWN7 07-29-2010 03:42 PM

Yes they do. Costs $0.45 per parcel

Bruce... isn't it spelled Mueller?

Mueller? Mueller? Mueller? :)

Don Plumley 07-29-2010 04:42 PM

You get one automatically when you use online Click and Ship. That being said, it's largely worthless with regard to actual useful tracking information.

Zeke 07-29-2010 04:50 PM

thanks. I'll splurge for the .45

+1 When I've tracked usps, it doesn't update until after delivery.

Who do, amazingly, then use the same tracking # in their systems. At least, some of them do...

USPS, understandably, does not track in Canada once it cross the border but will supply delivery notice.

May be it's doable in some foreign systems such as Deutsche Post.

Anyway, not a problem I pick-up in Ogdensburg NY (10 deliveries today) :);):)

I worked on the contract (Contract Rep for the vendor) for USPS' current tracking system. The not so inside joke was that the package would be delivered well in advance of any receipt of delivery confirmation. Unless things have changed since I left, USPS did not buy wireless capability; all delivery confirmations were held until the handheld device was docked at the end of the day. Despite that shortcoming, I was consistently impressed with USPS as a service provider. Say what you will about their inefficiency, monopoly position on 1st class mail and very strong labor union, but, the fact remains that they do provide a good service at a fair price, or, as my KO counterpart always said "where else can you have a letter delivered from the east to west coast for the price of a stamp?"

As Newman said " the mail just keeps coming and coming and coming...."

USPS does not provide tracking information. They only provide delivery confirmation.

+1

It is not "active" tracking like found with UPS or FedEx.
It is only a confirmation of delivery to the address.

I know that when I ship to APO/FPO addresses, the delivery confirmation option is useless because the Military Mail system is not tied with USPS. I would suspect that most foreign countries will be the same way since the parcel is entering a different mail system. ymmv.

it seems like lately the tracking system has been getting better...granted this was from within the state but it's quite impressive, first time I've seen so many updates on USPS:

USPS - Track & Confirm

Wow.... I've shipped 6 parcels this month and every one of my reports still just have "acceptance" and "delivered" with no progress updates.

Things really are different in California. :D

... that I was able to track it "blow by blow"... unlike the latest from USPS;

Date Time Location Event Details
July 30, 2010 07:45:27 PM Coffeyville KS US Your package is currently in transit. You will not see any tracking updates for the next 3 days.

witch really mean that my next message will be, It's been delivered.

Don't get me wrong, while most of the Pelicans don't like USPS, I do. The flat rate that you guys have, is half the price that we pay North of the border... but we got free Health Care :D;):D

No they don't. It is called delivery confirmation. The only update you are likely to get is after it has been delivered. Some people may get a little tracking information out of it, but it is a far cry from an actual tracking service. Can you imagine how upset people would be if they peddled it as such?
