If you were closer I would just loan out a couple of my bantam English Game Roosters! Man, they will take out anything! They grabbed a couple of moles in front of me last weekend. Don't know where the moles came from but there are now two less in this world!

I gotta get a shot of the English Game riding on the back of a full size rooster! It is HILARIOUS!!! Little guy runs up and jumps on and the big guy starts running away. Little guy grabs feathers in his beak and holds on! It is also strange to see them 20+ feet up in the maple trees crowing and killing squirrels. Great fun in the barnyard. They also keep the bigger roosters in line and we have so very few problems around the yard. and no more squirrels ruining our apples.

well the havaheart sucks..i keep catching songbirds.

i upped the warfare..picked up a poison station and filled it with the pellets. then i dumped some stricknine down some holes, and set up some kill traps in the most active looking holes.

RWebb 08-07-2010 03:01 PM

I'm going to report you to PETA...and now the EPA and I am sure the ACLU will want to file suit against you to ...

There are some really nice ones out there. Been thinking of getting one for much the same reasons, and of course for cheap plinking.

The problem of poisons to kill field animals is secondary kill. The gopher eats strychnine, crawls out of the burrow and staggers around before it dies. Hawk sees weakened gopher and eats it. Both Hawk and Gopher die.

If you want to have fun doing it, check out this video for the Rodenator - real life caddy shack. We've used it at the vineyards, so far I've not been lucky enough to see it in action.

WOW!!

my friend has a trap that sets off a rimfire blank..you stab the tube in..the rodent tries to work the tube out,,trips it, and POP!..i heard it was loud, so i cant use it.

don, hear you about the secondary kill. here is what i did. i ran a hose into the hole..deep..2 feet maybe. i poured in some grains of poison..then i gave it a strong blast of air..i imagined i scattered grains into the little bastards, living room. then i caved in about 3 feet of tunnel. felt logical.

nothing in my traps today :( but no visuals..wife hasnt seen any..

RWebb 08-08-2010 01:08 PM

nope - like he said some will live long enuff to crawl out and run around

those will spread the toxin up the food chain (which may include your dog)

retching by the poisoned mammal will spread the toxin into the soil where children play

vash 08-09-2010 04:37 PM

one down..it stood still.. thwack!

arrow practice. i checked; it is legal to shoot them as vermin. it is however, illegal as all get out to trap and release them elsewhere. law makers are funny.

I would think ground squirrels would be happy if released on the lawn of City Hall...

What!? No trophy picture? How far was it?

I guarantee that you can not legally shoot a bow in your city. There usually is a non-projectile / no shooting law that includes pellet guns and bows, crossbows etc.

Congratulations!

fix them in place with infantry, then call in air or artillery

vash 11-01-2010 06:37 PM

i reset the trap to catch the second squirrel. hahahha

vash 11-01-2010 06:46 PM

These aren't very good. They also can have the plague.

George

Noah930 11-01-2010 09:22 PM

Like I wrote in an earlier post, you can just get a cat. One of mine caught a squirrel this weekend.

slodave 11-01-2010 09:23 PM

Why didn't you drive a few miles away and let it go? Dude.

RoninLB 11-01-2010 09:45 PM

Ace has good poison 1" x 1" chunks 24/bag that slide over two 4D nails pounded into a 2x4 with the heads grinded off and held fast by safety wire between the two heads. Dolled up w/peanut butter a squirrel eats 2/3 of one right in front of you without carting it off

a Crossman Tempest .177/500fps at 60' seems kinda weak. At 30' it'd penetrate. The one to get is the imported one from England. Anyone know anything about exploding pellets?

a friend saw one squirrel about 500' from here laying out in the middle of some guys front yard laying on its back with all 4s up in the air... he cracked up lol

a nice set of binoc's is the Cannon 10x30 w/image stabilizer for appx $250

i talked to fish and game. they told me it was illegal to catch and relocate them. he pleaded with me not to. they spread disease. there are thousands in my neighborhood. in the open spaces. releasing him would have been easy. but no..

the fish game dude told me..gave me the green light to use my bow in the backyard. he thinks they are a real problem.

Around my house the varmints/strays have more to fear from my wife than they do me. ;)

RoninLB 11-02-2010 08:13 AM

e-mail from a friend

"My twin bro used to go to a farm on the east end of LI. The farm raised Pheasants and Mallard ducks. They had big fenced and roofed chicken wire pens where the birds grew to market size. Place was full of rats because of the abundance of bird food. They would pour a cup of gasoline down the hole and toss in a match (after waiting a minute to let vapor spread.) There would be a blast and flames would come out of the multiple interconnected holes. Flaming rats would emerge and run all over the place and everyone would run after them with sticks, boards, clubs--you get the idea. Beer was consumed at these gatherings in large amounts. Best, __"
