need some real help..i have a ground squirrel in my yard, and he is setting up shop!
i am getting more and more holes dug into my yard..ground squirrel..not a gopher..well maybe a gopher...what's the diff? looks like a tree squirrel but less of a bushy tail. the holes i keep covering up..but they keep coming. i had him dead nuts with my bow today, but i hesitated!! i wanted to make sure it wasnt a tree squirrel!! i blew it! i should have blasted it and ID it later...but rookie mistake..(i dont want to kill a squirrel). i just jogged thru a field in the neighborhood and confirmed the beast, and etched the positive ID into my mind's eye. i am not so sure the little bastard will present itself again. it hears me moving in the house and it is like lightning!! GONE!
they are paving that field, and displacing those damn things into our gardens!! i see it, and i am shooting an arrow at it. hard to put on my wrist release, grab arrow..maybe the perfect reason to get a GAMO .177 pellet rifle with silencer. can i trap it with one of those havaheart traps? what would i use as bait? carrots? |
yep..havahearts work...we call 'em "gray diggers" up here...peanuts make good bait. .22 short nails 'em well...
|
peanuts!! cool thanks..this needs to stop.

vash,
It sounds like a chipmunk to me. I have had good luck with peanut butter and a minnow trap I purchased at Walmart. I checked it everyday and released the little rodents about nine miles away at an Army base. |
i honestly googled every ground rodent name i could think of, and nothing looks familiar..
hopefully i can post a picture post mortem.. |

Get the Gamo Whisper.
You will spend a lot of time and money try to solve the problem, then you will get the pellet gun, and suddenly the problem will be solved. |
PWD..perfect..ID'd him..california ground squirrel.
a pellet rifle is probably the best bet..i can shoot it from a window..cant do that with a bow. gamo whisper!! |

Hate to come off as a softy, but they really are suckers for peanuts in the shell in a havaheart squirrel trap. But like I've said, .22 short round in a single shot .22 rifle bothers the neighbors not at all...
|
my neighbor owns a havaheart..he said i can borrow it.
this will be a two pronged attack..i hope i trap him. he is wily!! i have only seen him that one time! thanks for the peanuts tip. i will work up a veggie nut medley for him..:) |
I read , walnuts..... also fox urine , I "had" a squirrel problem, now I have a fox problem

GOPHER ERADICATION
Dry Ice is heavier than air so it will find its way to the bottom of gopher dwellings. Place 1 to 2 inch pieces as deep into each hole as can be reached and fill the front of the hole with dirt. If you miss some holes the process may have to be repeated. Jerry Yamamoto of Hayward, California reports that he successfully used Dry Ice to eradicate regular Argentine ants from his front yard. Perhaps this could work on fire ants too |
Hook a hose to the exhaust of a an old piece of yard equipment.... The more smoke the better...... Start the motor and cover every place the smoke comes out.... Once you see no more smoke.... Let the motor run out of gas...
Bye Bye Mr Squirrel.... |
all great info above
a $200 handheld Beeman Tempest @ 650 fps w/medium weight pellet will bring down a 5# seagull sitting on top of a utility pole if you hit him in the head. A squirrel will go down if you clip him on the head with a rock. Either be a sharpshooter or get a 22 Beeman sells some trick factory rebuilt rifles. It seems to come to 25-33.3% off new. |
If you catch it with a Hav-A-Heart, then you have a live critter that you can do all kindsa stuff with... like...
1. turn it loose in WalMart 2. turn it loose in Walgreens 3. turn it loose in Burger King 4. turn it loose in the tool box of a friend's pickup You get the idea. |
