People tend to drive towards what they are looking at.

You can be sure people will be looking at that thing as it passes overhead.

so what happens if you are underneath and need to make a turn? might work on a freeway but city streets it will be in the way all the time

That is such a good idea. Another good idea are old type Trams tha go down the middle of the road and EVERYONE gets out of the way. San Francisco or Melbourne style.

I think it would be a little unnerving to be driving down the road and have that thing overtake you. Especially if you want to turn.

if i'm not mistaken it says in the vid that the turning traffic lights could be made separate for the bus and cars.
