Help Me Make Sense of the Porsche-VW Purchase Saga

I'm making a presentation for my finance class and I'm attempting to tackle the Porsche-buys-VW vs. VW-buys-Porsche sordid tale. I've read several articles on the subject but they really don't do much to cut to the chase about just WTF happened. I searched here also but didn't find much to work with.
There's a lot of conjecture being tossed about on the matter and I really need some clarity.

There is a lot here in the archives, but whether it's accurate is something you will have to sort out. PM Kaisen, he knows this as well as anyone and won't screw up the facts.

Short version, Porsche sold bonds or otherwise pledged a giant amount of money for VW. The market didn't support the purchase, the funds were called and VW turned the tables. The deal is still not completely formalized.

If you follow that theme, it should all eventually make sense .

Thanks, that's the kind of dirt I was looking for, especially the hedgefunds section, that was a portion of the story I was having particular trouble with.
