I happen to have a new TC hanging on the wall. Since I don't shoot bp I think the least I can do is offer to trade it for either of yours so that you will have a good shooter. (all things equal I'd prefer the upper one but of course it would be your choice) Jim

I bet the hook on the end of the butt (the lower one) would work beautifully.
Nice spoons.

Both Krider and Choate worked from roughly 1850 to 1880. John Krider was located in Philidelphia and Choate in up state NY. Both are considered to be par excellence craftsman.
Krider also has the distinction of having made the prototype for the Le Mat revolver right before the CW. Krider also ran a big sporting goods store in Phili. A few years back the Met in NYC had an exhibition of American Percussion rifles which included a Krider rifle. Some of you might be surprised what a Krider rifle sold for in May. I e-mailed the the Auctioneer yesterday who had bought the rifle out of his own auction.

Yep, some ugly spoons there TABS! Simply horrible to waste your time on collecting those. I'll be by next weekend and take them off your hands for you. I think a $10.00 disposal fee would be about good, non?
Definately top of their era. And I would be willing to wager that these are still in shooting condition! Rather nice. Not my favourite style as far as rugs go, but far nicer than the last few I have seen offered locally.

I love the Kashans. My grandmother had an enormous one with a very thick pile, and when I was little I would lay on it and pore over the patterns.

A nice Krider sold at Amoskeag auction in March for $23,000..the auctioneer bought it for hisself. A cased Krider that was featured in Ray Riling Powder Flask Book sold privatily for $30,000 previous sale on that one was $20,000 to a Bond Trader. One that was beat sold recently through Collectors Firearms in Houston for 5K. Me thinks Collectors is sometimes behind the curve...

____________________ Some of us just don't have a fat enough wallet. Saturday, two 1808 British flint locks sold at an estate sale in the LARGE (pop. 6600) town of Reeds Spring MO. The auctioneer announced that the owner of Bass Pro Shops ( John Morris ) had left a sealed bid. His bid was ( )successful. After the sale, I asked one of the auctioneers how high Morris was willing to go, ( $46,000 - on the pair. ) *They will be on display either at Bass Pro in Springfield or Big Cedar Lodge, near Branson MO.

_____________________ I have no idea. I know next to nothing about these early weapons. My spoon collection is all 'modern'. I bid on them just because I knew they had to be of some value; they were nice looking and well cared for. One had more brass accents on it than the other. I dropped out at $3,800 (for the pair) just because I had no idea of value. If you could send me to a web site with photos or explain the differences, I might be able to tell you? Either the guns ARE very valuable - or Morris just decided he wanted them and damn the cost. * Some multi-millionaires are like that.
