Asus Netbook, $179.00

Netbooks have the highest return rate of a single item at stores like Bestbuy, etc. People buy them thinking they're as functional as a laptop. They're not.

However, for surfing the net, doing basic music listening, and basic word processing stuff, they're great. Since I travel for a living, my netbook is the perfect companion for sitting in an airport. It's light weight, has plenty of storage, and does what it's intended to do...."surf the net."

$180 is a good price. I already have one, but if i didn't, I'd certainly buy that one.

They are--when you put a decent OS on them. Ubuntu Netbook or Hackintosh is the way to go. Windows is unacceptably dog-slow on my Core 2 Duo work laptop. There is no legitimate reason to expect better performance on a lower-powered device!

Of course, you have to have hands small enough to manipulate the keyboard and whatever junk pointing device is integrated into the 'book. The thing about that is most people should be able to determine if they're ergonomically compatible BEFORE they buy the netbook.

Exactly, I carry two machines 90% of the time.

A $3,500 17 inch laptop and a $300 netbook

The big box stays at home when I go away for personal time cause I can't do the same stuff on it so I'm forced to not work

Yep. I run Ubuntu on my regular laptop and Windows XP on my netbook. The netbook is strictly for surfing at the airport/hotel.
