10 year old opera singer, is this real?

When I first saw it I figured it had to be fake. Now I'm not so sure.
FF to 1:40 to get past the introductory stuff.

Caught that live while surfing.

The performance looked like lip sync to me.

If real it's impressive.

Yes, it's real.

My wife was watching the show live (last night?). I usually ignore it while I surf Pelican and Facebook. I paid attention.

I thought it had to be fake as well. No way a 10-year old can have that mature and perfect a voice.

Believe it or not, the thing that convinced me it was real was how the little girl conducted herself in the post-performance interview. There was a maturity there lurking below the surface not often seen in 10-year olds (or 20-year olds for that matter).

sammyg2 08-12-2010 06:04 PM

Just saw a clip where howie asked her to sing a few notes to quell the nay-sayers. She sang a scale up and down very well, so it's probably real. No telling if she was lip syncing or not but it was her voice.

How about this one. A chubby Taiwanese guy sings Whitney Houston so well it was creepy.

LOL here's another good one from him, but someone needs to translate the words to him. I wonder if he knows that he's singing how no other man's gonna do ;)

Here he is singing Amazing grace. Not an easy song to sing but his pitch and inflection is near perfect through most of it. He doesn't quite have the range so he struggled a but with the highs but not bad. Prolly should have started a little lower. He starts singing at about 1:20

I was just about to say that I want to see her sing in that voice, with no background music and away from any stage electronics. Out in a field... 5 miles from electricity. Then I will believe it is real.

Otherwise, I say the performance involved complex voice enhancers built by NASA.

Can't find it right now, it was on my AT&T homepage.
But ...... here's a video of that same girl when she was 9 years old, singing intro a video camera without a microphone or background music. No doubt, she can sing.

Found it, national anthem. 9 years old. Better than most grown-ups can do it.

This is interesting. A mix switching back and forth between Arenel Pineda and Steve perry singing the same song.
It's pretty darned close, but Steve had a deeper, darker voice.

That girl is incredible!!! The rest of us just have to accept that there are people who are good, people who are great, and those whose talent is beyond what we see or hear anywhere else.

The Taiwanese guy? Really kind of weirded me out to close my eyes, listen - hear Whitney Houston, then open my eyes and see him.

Prolly time for another, I read that she was 12 when she sang this:

sammyg2 05-25-2012 08:18 AM

This 11 year old doesn't look the parts but she sure can sing:

In the comments someone posted: "a black girl is stuck in her".

rnln 05-25-2012 08:29 AM

This is Korean. The little boy is a homeless. He learned to sing himself by watching TV. Watch the interview. Amazing isn't it?
Oups, I was mistaken this taiwanese guy with this Korean guy

Jackie Evancho,
Great voice for her age, though not yet pro. level. Many singing pros criticize pushing her too soon. They fear damaging her still-developing vocal chords.

For comparison, this is world-class:
