Valentine One Concealed Display - COLOR LED UPGRADE

Still researching and have not yet pulled the trigger on buying av V1 but I ran across this company who provides an aftermarket service to change the threat indicators and the strength meter to color LED's for better identification using peripheral vision. Pricey but a nice option.

Full Color Defense

Neat idea but honestly I don't see the benefit. $100 to change out a few LEDs?

On mine I just disabled the X band (there are instructions on the web site how to do this) since nobody uses it anymore - it's always door openers and a nuisance. Once those are out of the equation, K band tones warrant a "pay attention" response and Ka or laser an immediate "panic stop" response. It's worked to date.

The concealed display is nice but only insofar as I can reach my hand down and hit the button (mounted behind steering wheel) so a cop behind me doesn't see me fiddling with hitting the button to silence it, nor does he see blinky lights on the windshield.

The tones are what gets your initial attention, not the lights. The lights only tell you (after you've responded to the tone and looked at them) where the guy is and how far.

Had my first one stolen and I tried to live without one, but broke down and ordered a new one last week. Got tired of lame "used" sellers on Craigslist.

I don't see the need for the concealed module except to mute it like PoP said. The unit has to have rearward line of sight so it can't really be concealed from the rear. Before mine got stolen I bought a couple of power cables off eBay that has a second line with a push switch on the end to route to a convenient place. Never got to install the lines, but I will for the new unit. Was like 9$ for each.

Hard to do without one at times. Funny thing is that I do not speed that much anymore but considering that many police departments are using this to make money and not enforce the law, the last thing I need is a ticket that costs money.

Right on. You could be in your truck going for groceries and be doing 42 in a 35. Nice to have a reminder if you fall asleep, figuratively speaking.

$39.00 at Valentine...

Mike,

Thats interesting. Am not a big fan of the cigarette lighter mount as something heavier would possibly vibrate out after a couple of bumps but its a good start...

Exactly. I am usually getting passed on the highway driving to and from work, but if I need to get around a rolling 'herd' with a little more speed I want to be aware. I hate being boxed in within a "herd."

There's a guy on eBay who sells the service to make the remote module less balking. He takes the actual unit and pulls the front off then repackages it so you can stick it on the gauge cluster.

The colored LEDs are neat, but not worth the money IMO.

Just get the remote push button and mount it on the turnsignal stalk.

The V1 is also powered by a cig lighter and rarely jiggles loose. You can always hardwire them.....

Joeaksa 08-16-2010 02:52 AM

It is powered by a cig lighter but the amount of weight of the power plug in is a lot less than that of a power plug PLUS the head assy hanging way out in front of the unit sticking in the lighter socket.

A couple of bumps and if the lighter socket is not really tight and that puppy is going to be falling out.
