I'm bummed, Sturgis accident ...

very good customer and very nice guy got killed from head injuries , thought he would live but his lungs filled up with fluid ( bruised), went down passing a truck in Kansas. I've ridden bikes since I was 5, when I got with my present wife I said I'm getting out and that is the reason I bought air cooled Porsche. Reason I am posting this: reevaluate if you are riding a bike. He was a very good rider

No, no helmet, I've seen him ride in shorts and flip-lops, BADASS bike, I always wore leathers to the hilt but didn't like helmets. Had a talk with myself: if you can't wear a helmet or keep from bar hopping then give it up. I've had a few friends go down and live.... 5 killed

Sorry for your loss.

I never get on my bike without full gear, and I never drink any alcohol if I'm riding. Today I did about 175 miles down to Camp Pendleton and back (including some off-road on the base). If your number is up, it is up...doesn't matter what you're doing.

My daughter is an RN...she used to work an E room in South Dakota...she hated the Sturgis Rally because her hospital was along one of the routes to it...yeah, lots of overtime she could have lived without.

I always dress for the fall, even riding across Texas in August. I never understood the helmet haters.

Guy behind him doesn't know why the accident happened, saw his back end come around, thought it was a problem with the bike. it didn't have a scratch and loaded on the trailer no problem, others have to live with his choices, too bad

Very sorry to hear this. I ride 14,000 miles/yr and have of 1/2 million total......Too many 1,000 miles days to count. 5 day of 1150 and top is 1280 Mexican border to Seattle, 1 day.

I can't understand the Sturgis mentality. No helment, no protection, loud pipes and look cool ...... It's kinda like Halloween, show up with your costume, all looking alike, trying to be different......I call it a utility trailer show....Been thru there during the "rally" and never even took the exit.........

That said, how do you die "passing a truck?".......I'll keep my opinion to myself.....I feel for the family........

One of my guys in-laws had been riding forever. Father is a wrench. Took a two week round trip from TX to NY. Bike got a complete work over before start including fresh tires. On the return leg in AK, a few hours from home, new rear tire failed. FIL broke his wrist and a couple of ribs. MIL, wearing helmet, died from traumatic brain injury.

It always sucks.

Very sorry for your loss. Like Tod & Bob, I don't go out without a jacket and boots at a minimum - and not even a block without a helmet. Also, I won't even drink one beer & get on my bike. Wrecked my first bike years ago coming home from a party at 3AM after drinking. Never again.

Sorry to hear about your loss...I've ridden bikes for 30 years.. I only have two Harley's now. I always wear my helmet though. even in states that don't require it I still wear them.
