GMs IPO

Anyone buying?

EarlyPorsche 08-18-2010 12:12 PM

After the profits they've been posting and the fact that they finally cut out pontiac and saturn I think I will really consider it. I'm finally seeing good looking and well thought out GM cars on the road but will they continue to be this responsible or will they go back to their old ways?

I just can't wait until I get my dividend check. I'll be getting a big dividend, cause I'm a taxpayer, right?

1990C4S 08-18-2010 04:23 PM

I am sniffing around a kicking the tires. In a suspicious and worried manner. I don't have faith. I hope I'm proven wrong.

Porsche-O-Phile 08-18-2010 05:17 PM

If we all chip in and buy enough shares can we elect a board who will finally focus on busting the union?

cashflyer 08-19-2010 06:05 AM

Heavy union expenses, history of financial insolvency, managerial instability....

No, I'm not buying GM stock.

Tim Hancock 08-19-2010 06:27 AM

How long before they need to do another taxpayer funded "do-over" and the new stock becomes worthless just like what happened to the previous owners? No thanks, I will never knowingly give one cent of my money to GM (other than my tax money that the govt foolishly blows on bailouts).

EarlyPorsche 08-19-2010 06:31 AM

If they stay on course it would be fine. If they go back to their old ways and suddenly a strike happens and the guys in the GM paint shop make more than a surgeon...oh boy. Thats the problem with the gov't directing a company - how long can they keep them responsible?

jhynesrockmtn 08-19-2010 06:50 AM

Their new CEO is a jackass who doesn't have any manufacturing experience and led an otherwise thriving telecom company into bankruptcy. I worked for him from 99 to 2001 and watched him pork up a previously lean organization with his buddies from his MCI days. He had little to do with Nextel's success prior to the Sprint deal. No, I won't be touching GM stock.

jyl 08-19-2010 07:04 AM

The revolving CEO door is alarming.

GM is #2 in China (and outgrowing VW #1), that will shortly be the largest car market in the world by units if it isn't already.

widgeon13 08-19-2010 07:11 AM

I can think of no good reason to buy GM stock.

jyl 08-19-2010 09:58 AM

What's the valuation and the sales/earnings forecast? Anyone? Seems hard to have an opinion on a stock w/o having an opinion on those.

GM files IPO paperwork with SEC to sell stock - USATODAY.com

BGCarrera32 08-19-2010 10:44 AM

GM is in no way profitable and their "posting of profits" is a clever numbers game after taking +$24B in taxpayer funds to keep them afloat. Stating anything otherwise is total b.s..

HELL NO! Not after the hosing the bondholders of the old GM got at the hands of Government...

jyl 08-19-2010 10:52 AM

What is the free cash flow? Now and forecast?

enzo1 08-19-2010 10:53 AM

looks like the UAW's decided not to sell their resort Inside The UAW's Opulent Lakeside Resort

Vintage Racer 08-19-2010 01:15 PM

I would not touch this IPO in a million years.

Opulent resort? Whenever I drive by there the sign by the road just says "UAW Training Center". I figured it was just a big pole barn with a bunch of chairs and a chalkboard ;)

I hear the Chinese want to buy up all the GM stock

daepp 08-19-2010 02:47 PM

No way. How many cars do you have to produce just to pay the bloated pensions and benefits the union demanded?
