Audi drivers question Audi A6

I have the opportunity of buying an Audi A6 3.2 or the A6 2.4 Sline (both 2006 models and around 50,000 kms.) The prices are almost the same give or take 5%

The 2.4 has the Sline sports package ilooks terrific and is lower with 19" wheels, is stiffer and handles really well much more direct.
The 3.2 is the std model but has a lot more BHP.

Cheers Richard

As a previous A6 owner my suggestion is: Neither, run away from Audi, in my experience is too expensive to repair and prone to a multitude of issues...

I have had nothing but good luck with both A6's I have, my 98 just has over 230.000 reliable miles, 2005 Allroad has just past the 100k milestone only major work I done to either one has been change the timing belt and water pump on schedule.

My allroad is about to bump 100k as well, still an ****** amazing car. And completely trouble free. But it's the 2.7 twin, not sure on the other motors mentioned above.

None yet, I am going to redo the front end of the '98 soon, it's not as complex as the Allroad because the 98 Avante is a C4 model so it has less parts. I am thinking new strut inserts control arms and springs. You response indicates you have had bad luck with them??

P.S. I never got a chance to tell you " great bike your building"

The non-replaceable joints in the aluminum control arms are known weak spots. I replaced two while I owned my A6 twin turbo. The heavier the Audi model, the more likely these fail.

So as not too offend the Audi faithful here, I will simply post a link to my Audi experience.

Blown coolant line.....Another reason to HATE @#$%$# Audis

I just replaced the Timing Belt, Water pump, Cam Seals and Coolant lines on my Allroad and Avante because when I went to purchase parts at the dealer they told me this is what they usually replace. I did the timing belt on both the Allroad and the Avante same day and it wasn't that difficult. It might be a matter of repetition as I have done 20 or so. I am sure at some point I will be replacing the suspension parts on the front of the Allroad and when I do I will buy a complete suspension kit to the overhaul ( nice thing is all the bolts are included) It sucks that you had that kind of trouble with your Audi I have nothing but good things to report about them.

I did the timing belt and pump on mine at the beginning of the summer. After the lock carrier is removed it's easier than a 944 really.
