Issues with buying a "repo" SC?

I am getting to the point where I have some cash aside and have been thinking about getting another Porsche. My plan is to get a 78-89 model and do a mild backdate over time.

I found a Weissach edition SC on the local Craigslist, says it is a "repo special":

1980 PORSCHE 911SC CARRERA

A few questions, first are there any inherent issues with a "repo" car? Would the title have some issues?

Second, since it is a Weissach, would I be committing heresy by changing the color and backdating it instead of keeping it an original Weissach?

I haven't looked at the car in person yet, the description says it has body damage to a door so it would need body work. I don't like the gold color so a repaint would be in order. Interior looks a bit dodgy too. Price seems good though, if everything checks out mechanically.

What do you think?

I thought that looked familiar>http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/559704-1980-weissach-edition-sc-8500-a.html

IMO, modifying a Weissach would be a bad choice. You can find many solid "run of the mill" SC's to backdate.

That being said, this car may be a good buy that you can enjoy. As always, get a PPI and since it has body damage, have it thoroughly looked over for other, possibly hidden, damage.

Ask the seller about the title. I don't think the repossession would matter much to me, if the car was undamaged.

The Weissach cars were fairly highly optioned and if this thing isn't beat down so far that it's financial suicide to fix what it needs (particularly if the paint is still largely original) I think it would be better to try and save it, as opposed to ruining its originality. They only made 400 of them. If you are going to back-date a car, particularly if you have the funds for a full repaint, there are plenty of other cars to pick from out there.

FWIW - I've seen a Weissach in person, and it's very cool. Great leather interior with nice red piping. The tail is not something you see all the time either. Very similar (if not exactly) the old turbo tail.

I too vote to not backdate, but to try to keep it stock or reversible.

SC "Carrera"? Shouldn't that be "SC Carrera D" (Decal)? :)

Was "Carrera" ever used in the naming of any SC?
