Good for him. I hope I'm as lucky at 73. :)

H. L. Mencken said the only happy people he knew were single men and married women.

your father is Heff??

GH85Carrera 08-25-2010 01:21 PM

I heard a funny story about Heffner. Some guy asked him for a good pickup line to use on women. His reply was “I just introduce myself as Hugh Heffner, that works every time.

While I am enjoying the single life. I think it would be more enjoyable with a female. I sorta agree that most (like 98%) of the people out there aren't date-able at least for me.

smokintr6 08-25-2010 07:28 PM

I am 26 years old, never married and living in Kansas.... I'd say my chances are looking slim ;)
I had one 3 yr+ plus relationship which I thought was going to lead to marriage, but I bailed after I realized that she pretty much hated all the things in life that I like. To this day I can not understand all the people out there who get married just because "you're supposed to". Many of my married friends don't actually "like" each other, which I find really sad. (this does not seem to be limited to young or old couples)

I am pretty happy with my life, and I must say the longer I stay single the less chance I think I have of getting tied down. The first time I find myself thinking: I can't believe all the dumb **** you waste your time on, or the first time I feel I have to ask permission for my own time or my own money...it's over. The money thing has never happened to me, but I see it in my married friends. I find myself getting more rigid as time goes on. I just hope that when the ride's over I dont find myself thinking I wish I had traded all that fun **** I did for a controlling nag, so I could have someone to get old with. You never know. Every day is an adventure for sure... and I probably need a therapist ;)

You all know my story.

I think I would go insane being alone my whole life. Just having her to talk to and share a life with makes it worth it.

Good to hear you are happy, Mike. Have you got a rock for her when she gets there in October?

Schumi 08-25-2010 09:10 PM

Waiting on the rock. She's gotta live out here first for a while. It's a smarter move.

I read that too! A classic line. In fact, I can't wait to try it. Talk about an ice breaker. :D

Now where is that velvet smoking jacket..

GH85Carrera 08-26-2010 05:26 AM

I was single for a big part of my life. I feel so lucky to have found a woman that loves F-1 racing, and football. She is a bigger football fan than I am. We have so many similar interests.

Seahawk 08-26-2010 12:05 PM

I was married at 33. I can state without reservation that I was good at being single.

Being married has been, again, without reservation, great.

Perhaps it is this: Nearly every woman I have dated, including my wife, inevitably commented at some point, "You don't seem to need anything...you're very self contained."

Exactly.

I will exclude being a Father from that little calculus.

Turbo_pro 08-26-2010 12:30 PM

I've been married 3 times.
The first was older and taught me allot. Gave me a business sense, taught me to drink, dress and treat a lady.
The second was my age and had a young son and raising him was a treat.
My third was younger (trophy) and we had a blast clubbing, traveling and rocking the bedroom.
We are still friends.
Now I date a variety of women and life is good. Some very young, some my own age. Rarely date women who are older but who knows what right around the corner.
I like being married (hate giving away half) but life is what you make of it.
Love the one you're with and if it's right it will last.

There is one thing that holds true: At some point every woman will be flying along wings level, on course and without warning she will do a swan dive into crazy. If you can survive that, you should be fine.

You guys in your 20's need a few more miles on ya before you make any pronouncements on this topic...
