Mac Mini

I am about to get one. Sick of the PC world and today did it.

The new Mac Mini. looks nice, I browse the internet, use iTunes... But will it run Lightroom 3 ? anyone know?

stomachmonkey 08-27-2010 04:00 PM

Yes it will

If you have an option for 7200 hd get it otherwise do ram yourself

The most expensive box comes with os x server which you won't need

If you do get it anyway might be interested in buying the license from you

I love mine. Been flawless since I bought it when they first came out.

We have one and it works great. Mine runs Photoshop ok so Lightroom shouldn't be an issue.

There's another lengthy thread here that does a lot of Apple bashing. There are many accurate and valid points made within it. I do think there are some Apple products that are completely lame... iPad... cough.

That said, I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER PC! EVER!

After using my MAC for a month I wanted to throw up at the thought of all those wasted years on a PC.

My office is run on a network of MacMini's. Has been for years. Flawless performance.

And here I thought this was going to be a "Spoon" thread.

Kyle, having a Mac attack? Or was that before your time...

slakjaw 08-28-2010 02:01 PM

Lol what's a Mac attack ?

slakjaw 08-28-2010 02:03 PM

Speaking of spoons, I took my browning buckmark and my mosan nagant to the range today

I thought the same until I got to use one for a couple of days, now I want one.

I too was one of those never buy a Mac people until I got a MacBook Air. After that, I found myself buying Apple products whenever one my PC products would die. I couldn't be happier.

As with the iPad I'm still up in the air about it. Although I have heard they are now all the rage with photographers -- they use them as a portfolio. I guess I need to go play with one of them at the Apple Stores and see what the fuss is about.

I'm not an Apple fanboi at all. I respect Apple, and I love my ipod, but I have/had no desire to get anything else Apple.... until the iPad came out.

I've got an Android phone (the first, the Google G1), and love the phone. After having the phone for a while, when the iPad came out, I immediately recognized that the iPad would definitely fill a need. The ipad is like having a PC anywhere you are in the house. It's much more portable than a laptop or netbook. It's not perfect. There is room for improvement in the software, but I believe that is coming (soon actually). I'd like to have seen some nice Android alternatives, but so far there's not much worth considering. I'm sure there will be. I think the ipad hardware is nice. I've had mine for about a week and I love it.

My wife bought me an iPad as a surprise because she thought I'd want one but wouldn't buy it for myself. I was intrigued by it, but didn't see the need as I already have a desktop and a laptop. I've had it for about a month now and find it indispensable. I only use my desktop to archive photos and do some video editing, and to synch my phone and iPad. I turn it on for a couple of hours, maybe once a week. I use the iPad for everything else, and is my go-to daily use computer. I would never have guessed how much I like it and how much use I'd get out of it. I haven't turned on my laptop since getting the iPad.

The Mac Mini is sweet for the money. Great price if you already have a monitor, keyboard and mouse. I am debating whether to save up a little more and get a basic iMac, we'll see.

Does the Mac Mini come with a 7200 drive when you upgrade to the 500GB? Normally it comes with a 5400/320GB.

If you can't get one stock with a 7200 you can always grab and external for under $100 and set swap intensive apps to use it as a scratch drive. Always get FireWire drives whenever possible.
