F1 Spa ***Spoiler***
I missed the 1st bit & then had to watch some online in Spanish. I finally got to the TV about 1/2 way through.
Rain makes F1 so much fun! Quite the moves by Vettel. Too bad for Alonso - he was doing nicely. And congrats to Hammy for a good win. I thought he had blown it on that last lap before he went to inters. A good race! Ian |
Alonso's wreck looked too much like Kimi's. Man was that a good race!
|
And what a good track. It puts the new ones to shame. The Spanish online live feed had some very different camera angles which really highlighted the tracks undulations.
With slicks in the rain, it looked just like driving in snow. I have had numerous of those' oh darn' skids in the winter. Ian |
Vettel has given this season away. Some bad luck, but a lot of bonehead moves. Now we'll see if Webber has the cajones to chase Hamilton. I love Spa...
|
Yeah, good race. I think Spa might be my favorite track.
Hobbs made a good point during the race, had Webber or Kubica gone on inters before Hamilton, they would have won. I always find it interesting the the top 3-5 always seem to follow the leader on tire strategy. I think they figure that if they get it wrong, at least they all have it wrong. And for Vettel.... He blew it. I don't think it was a rookie mistake. I think many drivers would have tried that pass. I think any driver would have failed in those circumstances. I think only a world-champion quality driver would have known that the pass was a bad idea. I don't Vettel is quite there yet. Hamilton, or Alonso, or Schumacher (in a past life) would have tested that area for grip on a previous lap before attempting to pass. And what is with engines this season? How many teams are going to be taking penalties before they are out of Europe? |
Great race, webber held it together and if the redbull runs like it has been it's his season in the coming races......his clutch problem at the start cost him the race, had he led the first lap I think things would've tilted in his favor......
Good job by kubica, he has become the dark horse for the season..... The force indias continue to improve.... The penalties for engines will mix things up towards the end of the season..... Vettel needs to calm down and drive his own race......his aggresive moves are costing him opportunities.... It's webbers year......I'll have to search some of my past posts as to when I said it, but I called it early in the season..... :) |
I want to find out what in the world McLaren has done with their exhaust!
Great race and glad to see Alonzo where he belongs, broken by the side of the road. Sad to see Rubens crash out... |

I wonder if a combination of some new discovery (like when they couldn't get their rear wing working last season and they discovered the stalling effect by accident that led to the F duct) and the fact that Ferrari and Red Bull probably cannot run their flexible front wings has given McLaren the edge--at least for Spa. We won't know for sure until Singapore when we are back to tracks that should suit Red Bull. Is a valve in the exhaust legal? I assume not. The McLarens only seemed to make that low burbling noise when entering a corner. Maybe they found some kind of harmonic resonance that helps create downforce? I'm always amazed by the discoveries that come out of F1. |
Racing in the rain, Love Spa.
|
It was a good race. If I ever got to see an F-1 Race I think SPA would be the one. Monaco would be nice but I suspect just crazy expensive.
|
Vettel is very fast, for a little while. Maybe he should be driving a funny car or dragster.
|
Or bumper cars!

I see a great deal of Vettel bashing on this forum and as a race fan, I am perplexed.
He reminds me of a great quarterback that has more than his share of interceptions. Great play makers often have stunning failures. I am a fan and as such will not abandon my guy on a low note. I for one believe that he (Vettel) will finish the season on a high note passing both Webber and Hambone to capture an erratic but well deserved championship. He has some concentration issues but without doubt has proven to have the pace of the field. It looked to me that Hambones lack of concentration was at least on par with Vettel and yet he squeaked by. Lucky is an understatement. Be my guest and save this post for future pounding if you like. |
