Top Gear tonight - The Stig Revealed

Did anyone catch Top Gear tonight...They ran an uber new Ferrari around the track at 1 minute 10. Then the Stig came into the studio and they said they wanted to reveal him so people didn't think he was just some insurance salesman from Watney....

He came and and pulled off his helmet.....(spoiler below).....it was....

Michael Schumacher

AWESOME drive..

I believe the OP just saw this ep for the first time on BBC America. Hate to burst your bubble, but do not put to much confidence into Schumi being the actual stig.

I do not like the gap between when the BBC airs Top Gear, and when BBC America airs it. This was on 8 months ago...?

Yep...there's an 8 month lag time, BBC American has to go through and remove all "anti-American" comments and other off-color jokes.

This is why Top Gear is the #1 pirated/downloaded TV show on earth. I don't like downloading stuff illegally, but the BBC leaves us no choice.

BBC America...man up and show us the episodes when they air in England...we promise we 'merkuns can take a joke or two.

The Stig is Ben Collins.....Schumi was just a publicity stunt for Ferrari.

MS drove his 'own' FXX round the track dressed as the Stig...

Ben Collins isn't the 'only' Stig they use...his height and weight changes depending on the show...

The "owners" of the FXXs are only allowed to drive their cars on the track. I've read that they don't actual take delivery, rather Ferrari holds on to all the cars and then takes them to the track when they are to be driven.

Ferrari seems to be able to get away with imposing rules on customers that no other manufacturer would be able to get away with.

Ferrari (illegally) enforces price controls on dealers in the U.S.. The reason being is that if a car is declared a lemon, Ferrari has to buy it back at the price the customer paid. This nearly bankrupted them in the 80's when two F40s that sold at many multiples of MSRP were declared "lemons".

It's also my understanding that if a Ferrari is ever serviced by a non-dealer mechanic that dealers may refuse to service it in the future and it will not be granted certification for resale.

I seem to recall that the FXX was offered only to existing 'good' Ferrari owners.. and its not road legal...

So what's the problem here.. Ferrari calls you up and says are you interested in buying this car.. we maintain it for you, arrange track days with other owners and full serivce/ pit crews/ hospitality services and all you do is turn up? you are also part of the Ferrari development team and can get a Ferrari team to help you develop your own car....

Bear in mind these guys probably already have an Enzo at home.. possibly and F40 or F50 as well....with a few others.

Is it really such a hardship condition as that? Nobody is holding a gun to their heads...and if they don't like it and want a faster version of the Enzo I'm sure that Maserati would have happily sold them an MC12....which although on paper slower to accelerate was faster around the N'Ring than the Enzo...

I'm sure that Ferrari are pretty draconian in the US...but in Europe they are somewhat less paranoid...getting your Ferrair serviced by one of the specialists here in the UK does not appear to be an issue...

I mean its cool to have the track support and all but still... If I "own" a car I want it to be in my garage so I can drool on it.

Your attitude would probably change slightly when you have the $100+ million net worth necessary for ownership of such a car.
