Internet Connection Issue

I can't view (find) any web pages with 2 exceptions: Pelican & one other non-Pelican site. This includes the Email and main site of my ISP. Pelican and the other acessible saite show up in my browser history; nothing else does.

"Server Not Found" is the error msg Firefox gives me.

I saw this problem after I took down the power to my computer, cable modem & router (so I could paint the wall back there). I use Firefox and have poked around in places to see if it said "Refresh Buffer" or something. Restarting FireFox does not help.

Seems odd that I can get a couple of sites but nothing else.

so... HELP!!!

Danny_Ocean 08-30-2010 03:36 PM

Wayne purchased the Internet and is only allowing access to Pelican.

Have you tried IE? See if that works, then we can go from there.

Scott R 08-30-2010 04:27 PM

can you ping google.com ? or yahoo.com ? Do you get a reply with a valid ip?

stomachmonkey 08-30-2010 04:49 PM

Sounds like a DNS issue.

Could be missing search domains on your machine or more likely your router not passing them to you.

Can you hit IP addresses?

Here's google, 74.125.227.20

Reboot everything.

Thx - IE did not work either.

BUT IE DID have the facility to "repair internet connection" and it did...

RWebb 08-30-2010 07:14 PM

more info:

if you failed to view a particular website but not all, here's a quick step:

- go to start menu
- go to run
- type in "cmd" then hit enter - you get a small black screen
- type in "ipconfig /flushdns" then hit enter
- try reloading the page again or if it still doesn't work, try restarting your computer

This is great, now Randy can only post here (oops, never mind on that) and can't link anything. J/K

Can you post the screenshot of your router configuration screen? Block out the IP of course, but lets see if it's getting information from the ISP DHCP server.

But, did that work for you?

IE DID have the facility to "repair internet connection" and it did...

I did not try the cmd stuff in DOS box. Just posted it in case this happens to anyone else.

Huh? That has nothing to do with the site? Probably a memory issue with the printer not having enough to print the PDF...

Just testing you... ;) That was something I encountered at a client's office today.

Just now got it back.

Yea, it was horrible! I had to do real work this morning. ;)

porsche4life 08-31-2010 10:16 AM

I didn't think you ever did real work, Glen?

Sometimes. I will use up an entire roll 44 inch wide x 100 ft Photo-Gloss paper today. My mouse button finger is getting tired!

Por_sha911 09-21-2010 09:31 AM

GH85Carrera 09-21-2010 09:36 AM

You need to take a drive up North and offer this up as a commercial for Micro-Squish and Internet Explorer...
