I'm proud of my little hockey player...
My son and I watched the Red Wings last year and he was really into it. So we picked up the NHL 10 for the PS3 and played that a little bit but it wasn't enough. I ended up getting him some roller blades and street hockey equipment and in a few minutes he was off and skating. Still that wasn't exactly what he wanted to do. So we bought/rented some equipment and signed him up and he ran out on the ice like the Pros do and he was off and running. He's picked up the moves and skating backwards etc really quick. Now he's on practice till Oct when he starts on his first team and he can't hardly wait. I may even try to put in a rink in the back yard for him to practice on over the winter. Anyways this brings me to my new thread here because we took him to the Skate with the Pros fundraiser at MSU. He got to skate with the MSU players and ex MSU now Red Winds players. He was so excited he could hardly contain himself. Then to our surprise he made it in the back ground on Red Wings TV but even neater he made the home page on MSU hockey. Check out the link....
That's my little guy... Michigan State University Official Athletic Site He's wearing an MSU T-shirt under his Red Wings Jersey... LOL!

Very cool, Bill!!
![]() Always tried to get my guys into hockey, but they had no interest in it. I was a goalie, so I was on a mission. But they wanted baseball and basketball.

Thanks for the kind words Wayne! I'll put oct 2nd on the calendar. Send me more details like time and place..
VINMAN - He never cared for soccer or baseball much. He liked basketball but they actually would take him out of games because he was to aggressive. Everyone would complain when he would steal the ball because everyone should have a chance. They were clean steals too like during passes or dropped balls. One game he totally body checked another kid hard and they made him sit bench. I explained that you can do that in hockey not basketball. Lol!

My son was into at an early age also. I dont miss the 5 or 6am practices, (the younger they are, the earlier they start. It's a right of passage for the parents when they finally make it to bantams or midgets so we can sleep in until 9 or 10.!! Ha!) But wow time flies. He is now a junior and plays on three teams. (house, high school and travel). It has been great for us, as I have stepped in as his coach for the last several years. I also have played for 30+ years and best of all his granfather still plays, so its great to have 3 generations on the ice at the same time. It's been great watching all the kids progress over the years to where they are now. Before you know it, he will be as big as my kid. This picture was after a triple overtime loss in the state high school champoinship a few months ago. For reference, I'm 6'1. Yes he has skates on, but believe me, I dont remember high school kids being as big or as hard hitting as they are today! ------>

Bill, Congratz on getting the little guy out there, number 1 thing to remember is to have fun. I've had a kid playing ice hockey for 18 years, seen some good ones quit too early because it wasnt fun anymore. here is a few photos of my youngest having fun with Dan Boyle of San Jose

All hockey Dad's and Mom's too should be proud, its a great sport and above all a team sport and I think that team sports teach a valuable lesson to all kids. The early practice is cool with me, the wife does it, the games are great, tense and super funny at the same time. there is no sport like it, bar none. My son is 10 and has played for 3 years and can hardly wait to get to pee-wee, so he can do some checking, he is 4'11" tall and 119lbs fast and likes it rough, as my pal Don Cherry would say "a good Canadian kid" Hats off to all Hockey parents and their kids , girl and boy, support them cause it is the greatest game on earth
