Long weekend trip - New Orleans vs. Charleston, SC
Hi all, I'm trying to decide my next weekend getaway. What's your take on New Orleans & Charleston?
I like hiking/biking, live music, interesting architecture (yes, I like pretty cities...) I will end up visiting both eventually. Just wondering which one to do considering they're not that far of a drive... ...When I feel like driving anyway. I'm also considering flying into Willemstad, Curacao for a weekend. Hahaha! |

Curacao for sure.
NC has storms this week and will be wrecked next week. NOLA will have storms next week so that's out. Lesser antillies for sure no question. |

Hahaha! That is pretty funny, but I'm not going in the next few weeks, I just got back from Asheville...I will need to travel again soon, though.

Just flip a coin... you couldn't go wrong with either. Other than that, find out what music is happening in each and let that be the tiebreaker. I don't know larger venues in Nawlins, but in Charleston, check the schedule for Cumberland's and Music Farm.
Edit: Oops... got curious and found out Cumberland's is no more. http://www.last.fm/venue/8784512+Cumberland's Cumberland's was a bar/venue in downtown Charleston SC. it was host to some of the best music to come through the area, and was a hot spot for getting your drink on. this year they shut the doors for the last time and the former building is now an apple store.

You're about a month too late for a good jazz fest in NO. Satchmo was first week of August. However, the city's always a great time in my opinion, and there are several places to catch a few songs. Preservation Hall is a must if you've never been. Lots of good eating around town, too.
My wife and I head down there at least once a year. I'm considering a solo stop next week on my way back from AZ.
