Only one alarm keyfob, what to do?
Hi,
I'll probably buy a nice Subaru with an aftermarket alarm... (not thrilled about it) The problem is just one keyfob exists and is already falling apart.. aside from pulling the alarm module to get the brand/model is there any other way to find what alarm system is installed so I can buy replacement keyfobs? Note: There is no history on who/when that alarm was installed.. :( Thanks Update: I just found this place: http://www.keylessride.com/ they can find the remote information by providing basic information from the remaining keyfob. Looking good.. I'll update the thread with details when I contact them |
We had a similar problem, our Honda had an aftermarket keyless entry/alarm installed by the PO. Fob batteries died, so we took it to the place that installed it (big home/car audio place in town). They brought it into their service bay, found the module in 10 seconds, identified it, found 2 new key fobs, reprogrammed them and sent us on our way. 30 minutes and about $100, parts labour and taxes.

You need to find out what brand/model the alarm is, get up under the steering column with a flashlight and follow the wires that don't look stock.
Remotes aren't universal so you'll need to find a dealer for that brand, but all alarms made in the past 15 years are easily programmed to the system, make sure when they program them to wipe out the old remotes just in case...... Any reputable alarm/car audio dealer will help you.......if the unit is not older than 5-6 years old it should not be a big deal..... |
When my wife crushed one of our remotes I found a replacement unit here: RemotesUnlimited.com : Car Alarm Remotes
